Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong Cash GenerationTTM operating cash flow of about EUR 9.9bn and free cash flow of roughly EUR 8.0bn show that the turnaround is converting reported earnings into substantial internal funding. This supports investment, balance-sheet improvement, and resilience through project-cycle swings over the next several quarters.
Large Order BacklogA EUR 162bn order backlog and increased quarterly order intake provide multi-year revenue visibility across energy projects. This supports capacity planning and future service activity, while positioning Siemens Energy to benefit from sustained grid investment and rising power demand.
Profitability TurnaroundThe company has moved from earlier losses to meaningful TTM profitability, with a 9.7% EBIT margin and 6.4% net margin on about EUR 42bn of revenue. If execution remains disciplined, this stronger earnings base can reinforce cash generation and fund strategic growth.
Bears Say
Siemens Gamesa Cash BurnPersistent cash consumption at Siemens Gamesa remains a material drag on group capital allocation, with management targeting wind cash breakeven only around 2028. Several years of recovery needs could absorb funds that might otherwise support investment, debt reduction, or shareholder returns.
Volatile Earnings HistoryAlthough current profitability is strong, losses and negative margins in 2022–2023 show that earnings have not yet demonstrated a consistently stable cycle record. This history indicates execution and project conditions can materially affect results, making future margins less dependable than the latest figures suggest.
Structural Wind CompetitionIntense competition from Chinese wind manufacturers creates a durable risk to pricing, margins, and market share for Siemens Energy's wind activities. Even with improving operations, sustained cost pressure can make profitable growth harder and increase the strategic burden on the European business.

Company Description
Siemens Energy
Siemens Energy AG is a global leader in energy technology, structured into four main divisions: Gas Services, Grid Technologies, Transformation of Industry, and Siemens Gamesa. Its Gas Services segment supplies essential equipment for both large-scale and localized power generation, including gas and steam turbines, generators, and heat pumps, alongside services like performance optimization, upkeep, digital solutions, and expert advice. The Grid Technologies unit focuses on modernizing energy infrastructure, offering high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems, grid integration for offshore wind farms, and a range of electrical components like transformers, flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS), high-voltage substations, and various air and gas-insulated switchgears. It also provides circuit breakers, capacitors, advanced digital grid solutions, essential components, robust cybersecurity, and energy storage systems. Through its Transformation of Industry segment, the company supports industrial decarbonization and efficiency with products such as electrolyzers, industrial steam turbines and generators, turbo and reciprocating compressors, and innovative drive systems, further supplying batteries, fuel cells, and a variety of other industrial solutions, complemented by comprehensive service and digital tools. Finally, the Siemens Gamesa division is a key player in wind energy, providing both onshore and offshore wind turbines. Its services encompass the entire lifecycle, from design, engineering, and manufacturing to installation for both onshore and offshore projects, along with ongoing management, operation, and maintenance of wind farms. Siemens Energy caters to a broad customer base globally, including public utility providers, private power producers, energy project developers, municipal power entities, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms, the oil and gas sector, transmission and distribution grid operators, and diverse industrial and infrastructure clients. Established in 1866, Siemens Energy AG maintains its headquarters in Munich, Germany.

SMERY Earnings Call
Q3 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call communicated a broadly positive operational and financial performance: strong revenue (EUR 17.9bn), materially higher profitability (profit before special items ~3x YoY and a 14.2% margin in Q3), meaningful free cash flow (EUR 7.2bn YTD) and a noteworthy wind turnaround (first positive quarter in 15). However, material near‑term and medium‑term challenges remain — notably Siemens Gamesa's continued cash burn and the need for offshore order momentum, slower‑than‑expected hydrogen market development, reservation/slot uncertainties, and competitive pressure from Chinese manufacturers. On balance the positive execution, cash generation and improving wind results outweigh the flagged challenges, but several risk items require monitoring.View all SMERY earnings summariesTechnical Analysis
