Bulls Say, Bears Say

Bulls Say
Return To Double‑digit EBIT MarginA sustained shift back to double‑digit EBIT (10.5%) materially improves the group's structural profitability and cash generation potential. Management guidance to sustain double‑digit margins and target ~12% by end‑2026 suggests this is a strategic improvement from productivity, pricing, and mix rather than a one‑off, supporting durable earnings power over the next 2–6 months.
Material Net Income And Cash‑flow ReboundA large YoY net‑income and free‑cash‑flow uplift strengthens internal funding for capex, M&A and working‑capital needs. Recent cash improvement reduces near‑term refinancing pressure and underpins management’s planned elevated investments and productivity programs, improving operational optionality over coming quarters.
Marked Improvement In Coffee International & Brazil JVSubstantial profit gains in core coffee operations indicate durable competitive advantages—better sourcing, local market execution and scale. Stronger margins in Brazil and Coffee Intl boost group resilience to commodity swings and validate growth strategies (including the Yoki deal) that should continue to lift earnings and cash flow over the medium term.
Bears Say
Meaningful Leverage On The Balance SheetDebt roughly equal to equity (debt/equity ~0.8–1.05 historically) limits financial flexibility if profitability weakens. Even with recent net‑debt reductions, elevated leverage increases sensitivity to interest costs and restricts capacity for aggressive buybacks or opportunistic M&A should cash flow underperform in the next several quarters.
Margin Volatility And Inconsistent Free‑cash ConversionInconsistent FCF (including negative 2022 and minimal 2024) indicates earnings have not reliably converted to cash. This weakens earnings quality, complicates sustained deleveraging and funds for elevated capex. The improvement is positive, but reliability remains a structural risk over the next 2–6 months.
Strauss Water Profitability PressuresUnderperformance at Strauss Water—driven by geopolitical impacts and intensified China competition—represents a structural drag on group margins. Management expects profitability recovery to take additional quarters, meaning Water could continue to depress consolidated margins and cash conversion while marketing and capacity investments persist.
