Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong Capital & LiquidityA high CET1 ratio and robust liquidity metrics provide durable financial flexibility, supporting dividends, buybacks and loss-absorbing capacity through downturns. This structural strength underpins strategic execution and lowers solvency and refinancing risks over the medium term.
Record Fee Income & Wealth MomentumGrowing, diversified fee income and rapid digital wealth adoption reduce reliance on interest margins. Higher AUM and recurring wealth fees create more stable revenue streams, improve cross-sell potential, and support fee-led earnings resilience irrespective of short-term rate cycles.
Improved Deposit Mix (high CASA)A higher CASA ratio structurally lowers funding costs and improves net interest margin durability versus wholesale funding reliance. Stable retail deposit sticks also enhance liquidity resilience and supports margin recovery when loan demand normalizes.
Bears Say
Net Interest Margin PressureGuided lower NIM reflects a structurally weaker interest-income environment for the next 2–6 months, compressing core earnings. For a loan-funded bank, sustained NIM erosion directly reduces operating leverage and constrains reinvestment, dividends and capital return capacity.
Volatile Cash ConversionIrregular free cash flow undermines predictability of internal funding for loans, investments and shareholder payouts. Even with profitability, unpredictable cash conversion raises refinancing and capital allocation risk and complicates multi-quarter planning for buybacks and dividends.
Credit Hotspots & Higher ProvisionsConcentrated problem exposures and a material one‑off provisioning raise expected credit costs persistently. Elevated provisions reduce retained earnings and capital headroom, increasing lending conservatism and pressuring ROE until asset quality normalizes.
