Q4 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q4 2026
Earnings Call Date:Sep 23, 2026|% Change Since:-4.26%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was predominantly positive: fiscal 2026 delivered 6.4% revenue growth, six consecutive quarters of positive revenue comps, record revenue per active client, improved margins, positive free cash flow and a strong balance sheet. Management also highlighted progress in retention, assortment expansion, AI and Vision. The primary challenges were declining active clients, higher acquisition costs, a difficult consumer environment and more modest fiscal 2027 revenue and EBITDA guidance, with Q1 additionally affected by temporary fix-volume issues. Management remained confident in returning to active client growth and sustaining long-term profitable growth.

Company Guidance

For FY '27, Stitch Fix expects total revenue to be between $1.31 billion and $1.36 billion, total adjusted EBITDA to be between $27 million and $42 million, full year gross margin to remain between 43% to 44%, and to generate stronger positive free cash flow for FY '27 compared to last year; for Q1, it expects total revenue to be between $323 million and $328 million and adjusted EBITDA to be between $3 million and $6 million, with lower expected fix volume from two temporary factors affecting only Q1. The company is probably going to be spending a little bit more in the 10% to 11% range on marketing versus the 9% to 10% range in FY '26, with Q1 and Q3 tending to be stronger acquisition quarters, and if excluding additional advertising and incremental AI investments, the EBITDA margin guide would have been much more consistent with last year's margin at the 4% range.

  • Full-Year Revenue Growth and Market OutperformanceFiscal 2026 revenue grew 6.4% year-over-year to $1.35 billion, compared with 1% growth for the total U.S. apparel, footwear and accessories market. Q4 revenue increased 4.2% year-over-year to $324.4 million, marking the sixth consecutive quarter of positive revenue comps.
  • Improved Profitability and Financial ModelContribution margin remained above 30% for the full year and in each quarter. Full-year adjusted EBITDA margin expanded year-over-year to 4%, exceeding the company's outlook. Q4 adjusted EBITDA was $10.8 million, or a 3.3% margin, up 50 basis points year-over-year and above guidance, largely due to lower fixed operating expenses.
  • Positive Free Cash Flow and Strong Balance SheetStitch Fix generated $19.8 million of free cash flow in fiscal 2026 and ended the year with $220.9 million in cash, cash equivalents and investments and no debt. The company expects to generate stronger positive free cash flow in fiscal 2027 compared with last year.
  • Share Repurchases and Capital ReturnsThe company resumed its share repurchase program and bought back 2.7 million shares for $11.3 million in Q4 and 7.2 million shares for $26.4 million during fiscal 2026. $93.6 million remained under the existing authorization at year-end.
  • Record Revenue per Active ClientRevenue per active client reached a record $592 in Q4, up 7.8% year-over-year and marking the third consecutive quarterly record. Average order value increased 4.9% year-over-year. The company said larger fixes and a broader, more relevant assortment supported eight consecutive quarters of growth in both items per fix and average unit retail, with fix AOV the primary driver of Q4 revenue growth.
  • Growth Across Women's and Men's Fix BusinessesBoth the women's and men's fix businesses grew year-over-year in Q4. Men's delivered double-digit growth for the fifth consecutive quarter.
  • Category Expansion GainsWomen's and men's activewear and athleisure grew 21% year-over-year in Q4, while footwear grew 14%. Accessories also outperformed the overall revenue comp. The company continues expanding in activewear and athleisure, footwear and accessories to address historically underpenetrated categories.
  • Expanded Brand Portfolio and Private-Brand TractionSince the start of fiscal 2026, Stitch Fix added more than 80 new brands, including Rhone, Birkenstock, Outdoor Voices, Malbon Golf, FARM Rio, Baggu, Merrell, Jordan Brand, Nike Golf and Mitchell & Ness NFL licensed apparel. In Q4, private brands remained prominent, including the top three women's brands by revenue and three of the top five men's brands.
  • Improving Client Retention and Client TrendsThe company ended Q4 with 2.277 million active clients. Client retention improved sequentially for the eighth consecutive quarter and reached its third straight high in nearly four years. New clients and men's active clients grew year-over-year in fiscal 2026, while the trajectory of women's active clients improved year-over-year.
  • Stitch Fix Vision Adoption and AI CapabilitiesStitch Fix Vision adoption continued to exceed expectations, and the company had shared more than 22 million Vision images with clients since launch. The company launched the 'See It On Me' feature, and the increase in Freestyle spend among clients who interacted with Vision remained consistent. AI is also being used in styling, fulfillment-center labor planning and customer service; the share of chats resolved without additional support more than doubled.
  • Operational Efficiency from AIThe company stated that its AI applications improve productivity and lower cost to serve. Generative AI supports stylists with item recommendations, AI improves real-time fulfillment-center staffing and planning, and AI agents handle more routine customer-service requests.
  • Growth Opportunity in GLP-1 Styling ServicesAll stylists are trained to support clients experiencing body transformations associated with GLP-1 medications, and the company now offers a themed fix with styles for every stage of the transformation. Approximately 20% of new clients recently said during onboarding that they were seeking styling guidance as their bodies change, nearly double the U.S. population penetration cited from a recent Gallup poll.
  • Planned Investment in Advertising, Technology and AIFor fiscal 2027, the company plans to invest in advertising and technology, including AI, to support long-term growth. Advertising is expected to be approximately 10% to 11% of revenue versus 9% to 10% in fiscal 2026, while management said it remains within its customer acquisition and lifetime-value guardrails and expects to obtain the right ROI.
  • Improved Cost Structure Supports Continued InvestmentSG&A declined to 45.3% of revenue, more than 220 basis points lower than the prior year. Stock-based compensation declined to 3.4% of revenue from 4.5% last year. Management said the improved cost structure provides flexibility to invest while remaining EBITDA profitable, maintaining a strong balance sheet and generating positive free cash flow.
  • New Product and Technology LeadershipStitch Fix welcomed Sree Sreedhararaj as Chief Product and Technology Officer. He brings product and technology leadership experience, including AI integration across prominent retail and consumer brands.
