Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 21, 2026|% Change Since:-0.97%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was broadly positive: the company delivered strong year-over-year revenue growth, returned to positive quarterly EBIT and net income, improved gross margin, reduced personnel costs, added customers, won a competitive Romanian order, and reported progress in hydrogen, SOFC, and industrial-partner initiatives. Offsetting concerns included moderate order intake, negative year-to-date cash flow, a lower cash balance than at year-end, Shanghai capacity limits, longer SOFC qualification cycles, and continued weakness in the automotive market.

Company Guidance

Management said it will continue to focus on sales and customer development, while cost control, cash flow, and improved margins remain essential as it works towards long-term profitability; the customer-development target is approximately two per month, with five new paying customers in Q3 and 18 new paying customers this year. In Shanghai, overtime might not be enough to fulfill customer demand in the forecast from customers today for the rest of the year, in which case the company needs to go to two shifts, although it may work with overtime or other means to make it work with one shift; management is looking forward to full two shift production. For SOFC, management expects either a ramp-up during next year in Coating Services or machine sales relatively soon, and said HJWAVE’s expansion plans require more than one machine, dependent on successful expansion.

  • Positive Q3 Net Income and Operating ResultsThe company reported positive net income of SEK 3.6 million in Q3 2026, compared with SEK -12.1 million in Q3 2025. EBIT was SEK 3.8 million, and both EBITDA and EBIT were positive. Net income was positive both including and excluding sales of recovered metals.
  • Strong Quarterly Net Sales GrowthGroup net sales increased to SEK 36.5 million in Q3 2026 from SEK 15.2 million in Q3 2025. Sales comprised SEK 16.6 million from coating systems, SEK 17.8 million from Coating Services, and SEK 2.1 million from aftermarket sales.
  • Year-to-Date Revenue and Gross Margin ImprovementNet sales for January to September amounted to SEK 58.9 million compared with SEK 31.5 million in the prior-year period. Year-to-date gross margin improved to 58% from 52%.
  • Cost Reductions and Improved Operating LossQ3 personnel costs decreased to SEK 9.4 million from SEK 12.7 million, while full-time equivalents declined to 43 from 54. For January to September, personnel costs decreased to SEK 34.2 million from SEK 43.8 million, average full-time equivalents fell to 45 from 61, and the operating loss improved to SEK -20.3 million from SEK -41.9 million.
  • Steady Addition of Paying CustomersThe company added five new paying customers in Q3, in line with its target of approximately two per month, and has added 18 new paying customers year to date. Since beginning its monitoring three years ago, it has added more than 70 paying customers.
  • Machine Delivery to HJWAVEQ3 net sales were driven mainly by machine sales to HJWAVE. An IC500 for antenna coatings was installed in HJWAVE's production hall, and HJWAVE's CEO discussed expansion plans. According to those plans, HJWAVE would need more than one machine, subject to the success of its expansion.
  • Romanian Research Institute Order Won Against CompetitorsIn Q4, the company won an order for an INLINECOATER IC2000 from a research institute in Romania. It competed against Hauzer and Singulus and won the public tender.
  • Denmark Machine Shipment CompletedThe company completed the factory acceptance test and shipped a machine to Denmark in Q4.
  • Scalable INLINECOATER ConceptManagement highlighted that its machine concept supports prototyping, production start-up, ramp-up, and volume expansion on the same machine type. Management stated that competing large linear inline coaters consume four times the floor space, cost four times as much, and have four times the throughput.
  • Progress in China's Hydrogen MarketFive regions have been selected for a four-year hydrogen pilot program in China, and management said the Chinese market is starting to move again. The Shanghai Coating Services center was operating one shift with overtime, and the company had to cancel a team dinner because employees were working overtime to complete production.
  • Automated Shanghai Coating Services CapacityThe Shanghai center has a fully automated 12-station cleaning line, robotic loading into an INLINECOATER IC2000, automated visual inspection, laser marking, and packing. Depending on plate size and coating type, the machine can coat 8,000 bipolar plates per day.
  • Commercial Validation of Coatings in Hydrogen VehiclesDuring a customer visit in Ningbo, management learned that the customer had delivered 613 hydrogen vehicles, many operating around the clock for several years, using fuel cell stacks from a manufacturer that uses Impact Coatings' coating. Management described this as information from real commercial vehicle operation rather than laboratory or theoretical testing.
  • Broad Coating Services ApplicationsThe Linköping Coating Services center serves applications including earrings, components for Exeger, sweat-resistant pulse-measuring devices, PEM electrolyzers, and SOFC development. PEM electrolyzer coatings are the largest business at the center, mainly serving European and North American markets.
  • SOFC Customer and Machine Sales OpportunityThe company has delivered samples to four of the top five SOFC companies. Management said SOFC volumes are expected to be high enough that customers may invest in their own machines from the start, potentially enabling system sales relatively soon or a Coating Services ramp-up during next year.
  • Improved Operating Cash Flow Before Working CapitalYear-to-date cash flow from operations before changes in working capital improved to SEK -14.0 million from SEK -34.8 million. Management attributed the approximately SEK 20 million improvement to increased sales, improved margin, and lower costs, especially personnel costs.
  • Industrial Partner Process AdvancingThe company has contracted an advisor to support the process of bringing in an industrial partner. Several companies have visited the Linköping and Shanghai factories, and management said the process is progressing while the company remains selective about finding a partner that can provide synergies in addition to capital.
  • LT Metal Iridium-Coated PTL Commercial EvaluationImpact Coatings and LT Metal have produced samples of iridium oxide-coated porous transport layers, which LT Metal has provided to existing electrolyzer-producing customers for evaluation. Management described the offering as a ready-to-go coated PTL solution rather than a new coating development project.
