Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Record Backlog And Order VisibilityThe record backlog and substantial near-term deliverable portion provide multi-year revenue visibility, support capacity planning, and reduce reliance on winning new work each quarter. Major submarine, aircraft, and surveillance awards also deepen customer relationships.
Strong Growth And Margin ExpansionSustained organic growth combined with faster EBIT expansion indicates operating leverage and improving program economics. Higher margins can strengthen internal funding for development and production expansion, supporting earnings durability as volumes scale.
Healthy Liquidity And Technology InvestmentStrong liquidity and investment-grade credit quality give Saab capacity to fund production expansion, absorb program volatility, and pursue long-cycle defense opportunities. High R&D spending should help preserve differentiated capabilities across air, sensors, and autonomous systems.
Bears Say
Cash Conversion Remains Below TargetUneven conversion of accounting earnings into cash may reflect working-capital demands, investment, and contract timing. If it persists during rapid growth, it could limit self-funded expansion and increase reliance on financing despite reported profitability.
Supply-chain And Component Cost PressurePersistent shortages and input-cost inflation can delay deliveries, constrain production ramps, and pressure margins across complex defense programs. Saab is increasing inventory, diversifying suppliers, and insourcing, but these actions may require additional capital.
Program Execution And Under-absorption RiskLoss-making or delayed programs can dilute group margins and consume management attention while limiting the benefits of strong demand elsewhere. The T-7 ramp creates a prolonged execution exposure, and the Naval write-down highlights contract-selection risk.
