Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 26, 2026|% Change Since:0.00%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Neutral

The call presented a mixed but cautiously improving outlook. Whirlpool reported sequential margin improvement, strong SDA Global performance, stable market share, ongoing pricing execution, substantial liquidity, and a maintained free cash flow target. However, these positives were offset by softer demand, negative ongoing EPS, a $1.1 billion Q3 free cash flow consumption, lower revenue and margin guidance, raw material and tariff inflation, and disruption from the Grupo Casas Bahia bankruptcy. Management expressed cautious optimism for 2027 based on pricing, product launches, and structural cost initiatives, but acknowledged continued macroeconomic volatility and execution work ahead.

Company Guidance

For 2026, Whirlpool expects revenue decline of approximately 1.5%, a full year ongoing EBIT margin between 2% and 2.2%, approximately $250 million of gross cost savings, net cost takeout below $150 million, free cash flow of approximately $300 million or approximately 2% of net sales, approximately $400 million of CapEx, and year-end net debt below $4.5 billion; its EBIT margin bridge includes a 25 basis-point benefit from price/mix, a 125 basis-point headwind from cost actions, a 100 basis-point headwind from raw material inflation, a 75 basis-point headwind from tariffs, no material impact from marketing and technology, and a favorable currency impact of 25 basis points. MDA Latin America industry demand is expected to increase 5% to 7%, MDA North America’s full year margin is expected to be more than 2%, MDA Latin America’s full year EBIT margin approximately 3%, and SDA Global’s full year EBIT margin expectations remain unchanged; North America industry demand guidance is down approximately 5%, additional pricing actions are 7% to 10% in North America and in Latin America, their impact is expected to be somewhat limited in Q4 and fully ramping up in January, and SDA Global is expected to deliver double digit growth for the year, at highly accretive margins.

  • Sequential Margin ImprovementThird-quarter ongoing EBIT margin improved sequentially by approximately 80 basis points to 2.6%, despite intensified macroeconomic challenges.
  • Pricing Actions Offset Mix HeadwindsPricing actions in North America and Latin America fully offset mix headwinds and contributed approximately 250 basis points of sequential margin improvement. North American pricing actions implemented in April and July drove approximately 32 basis points of sequential margin expansion.
  • Additional Pricing Actions UnderwayWhirlpool implemented further pricing actions of 7% to 10% in North America and Latin America. North America announced an additional 7% price increase effective November 1 in Canada and December 3 in the United States, while Latin America announced increases of up to 10% effective in Q4.
  • Structural Cost Initiatives ProgressingStrategic sourcing, manufacturing optimization, warehouse footprint consolidation, and other structural cost initiatives are on track. The initiatives involving Amana, Perrysburg, Ramos, and Brazil represent $290 million in structural cost benefits, with most benefits expected in 2027.
  • North American Distribution OptimizationWhirlpool completed a 25% reduction in its U.S. local distribution center count while maintaining customer reach, with 97% of customers remaining within 100 miles of distribution centers.
  • Latin America Sales Growth Excluding CurrencyMDA Latin America net sales increased 2.5% excluding currency, driven by higher volume. The company expects MDA Latin America industry demand to increase 5% to 7% for the full year.
  • Strong SDA Global Margin and Order MomentumSDA Global delivered an EBIT margin of 18.6% in the third quarter. October U.S. orders were approximately 40% higher year over year, and the company remains confident in delivering double-digit growth for the year at highly accretive margins.
  • Product Innovation Supporting Premium GrowthWhirlpool launched an industry-first refrigerator with an indoor ice maker and a Tupelo washer with a removable delicate basket. In Latin America, it launched new induction cooktops and French door refrigeration products. KitchenAid expanded its product portfolio with the Luminaire stand mixer, the KitchenAid GO cordless line, KitchenAid Kids toys, and additional licensed kitchen accessories.
  • Stable Overall Market ShareManagement stated that overall North American market share was very stable across the first, second, and third quarters. The company also reported strengthened positioning with independent retailers, which management described as a richer mix channel.
  • Low Inventory Levels and Working Capital ActionsNorth American trade and company inventories were described as among the lowest levels in multiple years. Whirlpool completed inventory actions in the first half and is focusing in Q4 on cash collections, reducing overdue receivables, and extending supplier payment terms.
  • Free Cash Flow Target MaintainedDespite lower earnings, Whirlpool expects to deliver approximately $300 million of free cash flow in 2026, or approximately 2% of net sales, supported by working capital management, stronger cash collection, and inventory optimization.
  • Improved Net Debt OutlookThe company now expects year-end net debt below $4.5 billion, improving on its prior target of less than $5 billion. Whirlpool also reported more than $3 billion of available liquidity and no major debt maturities until 2028.
  • Capital Investment and Portfolio ActionsWhirlpool expects approximately $400 million of capital expenditures this year for product innovation, digital transformation, and cost-efficiency projects. The company also fully exited its stake in Beko Europe during the second quarter.
  • Second Consecutive Quarter of InSinkErator Revenue GrowthInSinkErator delivered its second consecutive quarter of year-over-year revenue growth.
  • Positive 2027 Margin FoundationManagement said the combination of new product launches, already-announced pricing actions, and structural cost reduction initiatives creates a solid foundation for margin expansion in 2027, absent a change in the macro environment.
