Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was strongly positive, led by double-digit revenue, operating profit, and adjusted EPS growth; record or near-record sales activity; broad-based segment performance; strong pipelines; and continued momentum in ETFs, professional services, AI, transfer agency, and Stratos. The main negative items were a sequential adjusted EPS and margin decline from variable investment gains and higher incentive compensation, a $32.5 million GAAP net income reduction tied to the NSC termination, institutional revenue contraction, mixed AUM flows, and LSV outflows. Highlights significantly outweighed lowlights.Company Guidance
Strong Third-Quarter Financial Growth
Third-quarter revenue grew 14% year over year, adjusted operating profit increased 25%, and adjusted EPS rose 24%. Adjusted EPS was nearly 50% above the level achieved two years ago.
Record Sales Momentum
Third-quarter net sales events totaled $47 million, the second-highest quarter in SEI's history, bringing the year-to-date total to $157 million. With one quarter remaining, SEI had already exceeded its highest full-year sales result in company history.
Broad-Based Growth Across Businesses
Growth broadened across multiple businesses, with contributions to both financial performance and sales activity from several operating areas.
Strong Investment Managers Performance
Investment Managers revenue and operating profit each increased 14% year over year, driven by the conversion of prior sales wins into revenue and clients continuing to deploy capital at healthy levels. Excluding the elevated compensation accrual, operating profit would have increased 17%.
Private Banking Growth and Operating Leverage
Private Banking revenue increased 11% year over year and operating profit increased 38%, reflecting balanced contributions from professional services, platform expansion, and international asset management.
Stratos Contribution and Expansion
Stratos contributed $23 million of revenue and $4 million of operating profit during the quarter, including $7 million of amortization. Stratos generated $11.5 million of EBITDA, up 17% from the second quarter, completed a tuck-in acquisition, onboarded several advisors, and has additional opportunities in its pipeline.
Advisor Business Growth
Excluding Stratos, Advisors revenue increased 10% and operating profit increased 7% year over year, benefiting from higher market values and clients onboarded over the last year.
Adjusted Margin Expansion
Adjusted operating margins increased 260 basis points year over year and remained near record levels, despite continued investment in the business.
Investment in Talent, Technology, and Global Expansion
SEI continued adding senior talent across data, AI, professional services, and asset management, while investing in technology and product development. The company also opened a Singapore office in September to support clients with operations and growth ambitions across Asia Pacific.
Investment Managers Sales Strength
IMS generated $32 million of net sales events, with approximately one-third from new clients and the remainder from client expansions. Alternative asset managers drove nearly 90% of IMS sales events, and demand was particularly strong among large and first-time outsourcers.
Private Banking Sales and Enterprise Demand
Private Banking generated $13 million of sales events, reflecting continued demand for enterprise transformation initiatives, professional services, SEI Data Cloud capabilities, and broader strategic engagements.
Retail Transfer Agency Launch
SEI launched its retail transfer agency with its first client on August 3 and subsequently brought additional clients live. Management expects combined transfer agency and fund administration revenue from the initiative to exceed $10 million on a run-rate basis by the end of next year, with the first deal contributing approximately $600,000.
ETF Asset Growth and Product Expansion
SEI's ETF assets under management exceeded $9 billion, up from approximately $4 billion the prior year. Management said the ETF business had approximately tripled this year from about $3 billion-$4 billion to about $9 billion, with growth across active, fund-to-fund, fixed-income, and equity strategies. Management said the business has the potential to double again next year.
Asset Management Execution Progress
SEI said its asset management business had moved from reimagining into execution, with progress in client segmentation, distribution, advisor engagement, pricing, product development, and new client acquisition. The company reported stronger RIA engagement, improving institutional activity, and continued ETF adoption.
AI-Driven Client Demand
Management said AI had accelerated client interest in partnering with SEI and was driving more demand rather than less. Clients are seeking help with operating-model changes, AI adoption, reskilling, compliance, resilience, and integrated platforms.
Professional Services and Recurring Opportunities
Professional services was described as a key driver of sales acceleration and a complement to SEI's platform offering. Management said clients are increasingly engaging SEI on transformation, technology modernization, data use, AI, and future operating models, creating recurring business beyond the original platform discussions.
Strong Pipeline Across Segments
Management described pipelines for the fourth quarter and early 2027 as strong, with similar breadth and segment mix to the third quarter. Institutional and wealth pipelines were described as being at all-time highs, while Private Banking is pursuing enterprise capabilities across more than 100 existing clients and new logos.
Potential Industry Platform Opportunity
Management identified an industry opportunity of approximately $50 billion in assets seeking a new platform home after a competitor announced that clients above a certain asset level would need to leave within nine months.
Institutional Pipeline Focus
SEI said its institutional pipeline is growing, particularly in endowment and foundation and healthcare markets. The company is pursuing a more targeted approach to top-line growth while retaining existing defined benefit plans.
Onboarding and Automation Progress
SEI said it has invested heavily in onboarding and has been using automation and AI to accelerate implementation. Management said clients are engaging SEI earlier in the process, giving the company a clearer understanding of their operating models and helping installations proceed faster than historically.
Share Repurchases and Financial Flexibility
SEI ended the quarter with $400 million of cash and repurchased $215 million of shares at an average price of $105. Management expects fourth-quarter repurchase activity to be similar to the third quarter and has an additional $800 million of repurchase capacity authorized into 2027.
Stratos Partnership Confidence
Management said its conviction in independent financial advice and the Stratos partnership continues to increase. More than 500 advisors attended a recent conference, and SEI said the combination is creating new opportunities across both Stratos and SEI.
