Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 29, 2026|% Change Since:0.00%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was broadly positive, with strong cumulative net profit and ROE growth, solid loan expansion, higher cumulative fee income, improving cost efficiency, stable credit costs, robust capital ratios, and increased shareholder returns. The main challenges were Q3 NIM and fee-income declines, greater quarterly non-interest income volatility, higher provisions, funding pressure, and potential insurance-sector capital impacts. Overall, the positive operating and shareholder-return trends significantly outweighed the stated challenges.

Company Guidance

Management expects the group's credit cost for the year to be managed within the mid-40 basis point range; from Q4, the base rates hikes from July and August will be gradually reflected in loan-asset repricing, and they expect the improvement in asset yields to further expand. Quarterly fee income’s basic fundamentals are thought to be around KRW 1 trillion, while a slowdown in fee income is inevitable. The year-end dividend will include KRW 180 billion of cash dividend, mid to long-term ROE is targeted at near 13%, and non-life insurance expects KRW 90 billion-KRW 100 billion of positive effect from the policy change regarding car accidents, with about a KRW 2 billion positive effect from manual-therapy measures. KB Insurance’s CSM is expected to decline by around KRW 500 billion and the K-ICS ratio by 5%, although the overall increase size is expected to be declined; KB Life’s CSM balance is expected to be about 8%, so difference, at about KRW 3.5 trillion level.

  • Strong Cumulative Net Profit and ROE GrowthQ3 net profit was KRW 1,907.5 billion, while cumulative Q3 net profit reached KRW 5,792.1 billion, up 13.1% YoY. Cumulative group ROE was 13.89%, improving by 1.1 percentage points YoY.
  • Stable Risk-Adjusted Earnings StructureThe group's actual interest yield after accounting for credit risk remained stable at a level one notch higher than the previous year. Management said banking and non-banking businesses continued to provide complementary earnings generation despite increased volatility and an unpredictable macroeconomic environment.
  • Net Interest Income GrowthQ3 group net interest income was KRW 3,507 billion, increasing 11.6% QoQ, supported by solid corporate loan-based bank loan growth. Cumulative net interest income was KRW 9,985.3 billion, up 2.9% YoY.
  • Solid Loan Growth Led by Corporate LendingWon-denominated bank loans reached KRW 391 trillion at September 2026, increasing 3.5% YTD and 1.5% QoQ. Household loans increased 1.5% YTD and 0.9% QoQ, while corporate loans centered on large corporations and blue-chip SMEs increased 5.5% YTD and 2.0% QoQ.
  • Expansion of Cumulative Non-Interest and Fee IncomeCumulative non-interest income reached KRW 4,758.8 billion, up 27.3% YoY. Cumulative net fee income was KRW 4,087.8 billion, up 38.5% YoY, and net fee income exceeded KRW 1 trillion for four consecutive quarters.
  • Improving Cost EfficiencyCumulative G&A expenses were KRW 5,360.4 billion, up 7.0% YoY, while the group cost-to-income ratio was 36.4%. Management said the CIR maintained a downward stabilization trend within its target range and that recurring expense reduction efforts would continue.
  • Continued Investment in Growth AreasUnder a principle of selective cost execution, KBFG plans to continue reducing recurring expenses while expanding investments in further growth areas such as AI.
  • Credit Costs Remain at a Stable LevelQ3 provisions for credit losses were KRW 563.3 billion, and group credit cost was 43 basis points for Q3 and 40 basis points cumulatively. Management said asset quality was improving and projected full-year credit cost to be managed within the mid-40 basis point range.
  • Strong Capital Ratios and Controlled RWA GrowthPreliminary September 2026 BIS and CET1 ratios were 16.02% and 13.80%, respectively. Group RWA was KRW 368 trillion, up 3.1% YTD, with annual RWA growth described as being stably managed within the target range.
  • Higher Quarterly Cash DividendThe Board approved a Q3 cash dividend of KRW 1,167 per share, totaling KRW 404.9 billion. Dividend per share increased by KRW 237 YoY, or 25.5%, reflecting a higher total annual dividend amount and the impact of share buybacks.
  • Shareholder Return Commitment MaintainedThe KRW 700 billion share buyback was completed, and KRW 180 billion of additional cash dividends remains to be added at the year-end dividend. Management said shareholder returns would continue to follow its established formula and commitment, subject to capital ratios, with a focus on mid- to long-term ROE near 13%.
  • Expected Q4 Support from Loan RepricingManagement expects the July and August base-rate hikes to be gradually reflected in loan repricing from Q4, supporting further improvement in asset yields. The group also plans to grow low-cost deposits and realign its asset-liability structure to manage funding-market volatility more stably.
  • Insurance Policy Changes Expected to Benefit Auto InsuranceManagement estimated that changes reducing car-accident settlement amounts could generate a positive effect of approximately KRW 90 billion-KRW 100 billion for the non-life insurance business and help improve car-insurance losses.
  • Indonesia Holding Company Expected to Create SynergiesKB plans to establish an Indonesia holding company with six group subsidiaries by August 2027. Management said there would not be a significant P&L change and that it would manage synergies among the subsidiaries to generate a positive contribution.
  • Stable Core Deposit Franchise and Funding Management FocusManagement said KB has a strong retail base and competitive core deposits. It plans to focus on rebuilding core deposits, reverse money-movement effects, and balance its asset-liability portfolio based on the rate outlook.
