Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Nov 05, 2026|% Change Since:―|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was strongly positive. The company reported over 4% adjusted net revenue growth, 10% adjusted EPS growth, margin expansion, solid free-cash-flow generation and strong performance across SMB, enterprise and platforms. Management also raised the Worldpay synergy target, reaffirmed full-year guidance, highlighted accelerating Genius adoption, expanding software-partner momentum and extensive AI initiatives. The principal challenges were the ongoing Middle East-related travel weakness, some lower-yield international volume softness, a temporary enterprise volume benefit that will not recur, and 2026 one-time costs and cash taxes. These lowlights were explicitly acknowledged but were outweighed by the company's operating results, integration progress and reiterated outlook.

Company Guidance

Management reaffirmed normalized constant currency adjusted net revenue growth of approximately 4% to 5% and normalized adjusted operating margin expansion of approximately 150 basis points for full year 2026, with adjusted earnings per share of $13.60 to $13.80, representing 11% to 13% growth, and currency exchange rates expected to have roughly no impact on reported growth; the outlook assumes a stable macro environment, resilient consumer spending trends, and the impact of the conflict in the Middle East continuing through the remainder of 2026. Management expects adjusted net income to adjusted free cash flow conversion of 90% for full year 2026, to return more than $2 billion to shareholders, invest approximately $1 billion in the business or approximately 8% of adjusted net revenue, achieve its 3x net leverage target by the end of 2027, and return approximately $7.1 billion cumulatively over the 2025 to 2027 time frame; it raised the Worldpay run rate expense synergy target from $600 million to $650 million by the end of 2028.

  • Third-Quarter Revenue, Margin and EPS GrowthAdjusted net revenue was $3.18 billion, growing over 4% excluding dispositions on a constant-currency basis. Adjusted operating margin was 42.5%, expanding 22 basis points excluding dispositions, and adjusted earnings per share increased 10% to $3.58.
  • Strong Capital Returns and Shareholder CommitmentsThe company returned more than $200 million to shareholders through buybacks and dividends during the quarter, bringing year-to-date capital returns to more than $1.4 billion. It continues to expect to return more than $2 billion in 2026 and approximately $7.1 billion cumulatively from 2025 through 2027; management also reiterated the approximately $7.5 billion three-year capital-return target discussed at the September 2024 Investor Day.
  • Worldpay Integration Progress and Higher Synergy TargetThe Worldpay integration is tracking ahead of plan. The company consolidated corporate applications, standardized HR, finance, procurement and expense-management processes, reduced management layers, renegotiated major technology and marketing vendor contracts, and continued consolidating facilities. As a result, the annualized run-rate expense synergy target by the end of 2028 was raised from $600 million to $650 million.
  • Strategic Repositioning Around Commerce SolutionsFollowing the combination with Worldpay and the exit of the issuer business, Global Payments is now solely focused on commerce solutions. Management said this provides greater clarity of focus and combines scale, reach and capabilities around three strategic pillars: differentiated products and solutions, a distinctive client and partner experience, and better use of global scale and distribution.
  • Organizational Foundation EstablishedThe new organizational structure is in place across the company, with a best-of-both approach to selecting leaders and team members from the heritage organizations. The company is organized around SMB, enterprise and platforms go-to-market segments, supported by shared product, technology and operations capabilities. Approximately 2.4 thousand leaders were placed as part of the combined-team structure.
  • Technology Architecture ModernizationThe company is advancing its target architecture model, including a unified API and orchestration environment intended to let clients and partners integrate once and access a broader set of capabilities. Management said the effort is designed to speed time to market, make cross-selling easier, simplify the technology estate, retire redundant capabilities and reduce cost over time.
  • Modular and Open-Ecosystem Product StrategyGlobal Payments is designing products and value-added services to be modular and, in many cases, acquirer-agnostic. Its curated open ecosystem combines proprietary capabilities with best-of-breed partner solutions so clients can use offerings regardless of who processes their payments.
  • Genius Momentum in SMBGenius bookings more than doubled year over year during the quarter. Genius served clients across restaurants, retail, campuses, age-restricted verticals, professional services and field services in a growing number of markets across North America and Europe. Locations sold increased approximately 65% year over year, total locations among larger multiunit restaurant clients grew more than 10% sequentially, and yields on new Genius bookings increased nearly 60% year over year.
  • Genius Customer Wins and Deployment ExpansionGenius won or expanded relationships with Subway, Carl's Jr., Hardee's, the New Jersey Devils, the Prudential Center, the University of Illinois, Compass Group and Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. It expanded to more than 100 additional 7 Brew locations, deployed kiosks across all Pollo Tropical locations, rolled out across 90 additional Jeremiah's Italian Ice locations, and completed deployment across CKE's approximately 300 corporate locations; the CKE franchisee rollout is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
  • Expanded Genius Distribution Through Financial InstitutionsFollowing a successful pilot with three Worldpay financial-institution partners, Genius began rolling out through Worldpay's financial-institution channel in October to more than 30 strategic bank partners. Management said the channel covers roughly 6 thousand branches across dozens of financial-institution partners and is expected to provide incremental momentum as the company enters 2027.
  • Genius Product and Geographic ExpansionThe company entered the convenience-store market, enhanced appointments and vendor-management modules, introduced a restaurant loyalty solution, expanded dual pricing, surcharging and cash-discounting capabilities, and completed Genius integration with the TouchNet higher-education commerce platform. Genius launched in the Czech Republic, is launching Genius Mobile Pay in the Philippines and several European markets over the next few quarters, and launched its small-business offering in Mexico through direct sales and financial-institution partners.
  • Enterprise Revenue and Commercial MomentumEnterprise adjusted net revenue was $836 million, with normalized growth of 8%. Enterprise volumes grew 10%, card-not-present revenue grew 8% on a normalized basis, and adjusted operating income was $658 million, representing a 79% contribution margin. Enterprise bookings increased 23% year over year through the third quarter, while cross-sells to existing clients increased 29% year to date.
  • Enterprise Client Wins and New Payment CapabilitiesThe company signed AirServia for all international traffic, went live with a standalone credential-management solution for one of the world's largest consumer technology companies, expanded a hyperscaler relationship with additional value-added services, and deepened its relationship with Athletics. NASCAR also named Global Payments its official merchant-services provider for ticketing and merchant services at its 12 owned and operated U.S. race tracks.
  • Enterprise Expansion Across Emerging Platforms and MarketsGlobal Payments won several emerging payments platforms, including CACTO, ExemPay, LAP Pay, Shaka Express, Wafo and ZTL Payment Solution. It went live with Aani, the UAE account-to-account payment method; completed its first Alipay Plus point-of-sale pilot at the Laver Cup in London; received Bank of Thailand regulatory approval for new client go-lives including Centara Hotels and Resorts; and prepared its Payouts platform to pilot payments to PayPal and USDC stablecoin wallets.
  • Payment Performance and Revenue Boost ExpansionAI-powered intelligent decisioning within the Revenue Boost solution is delivering a significant incremental uplift in approval rates. Following a North American pilot that began in October, the capability is ready for broader deployment across Europe and Asia Pacific.
  • Platforms Growth and Partner SigningsPlatforms generated adjusted net revenue of $625 million, representing normalized growth of 8%, while segment volume grew 11%. Adjusted operating income was $279 million, representing a 45% contribution margin. The company signed 52 new software partners during the quarter, ahead of plan, with strong momentum in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
  • Platforms Value-Added Services and Faster Partner OnboardingValue-added-services revenue in platforms grew 22% on a normalized basis, while embedded-payments volume grew 16%. Real-time payments became generally available on Dynamic Payouts, and the company expanded fraud prevention, debit routing and account-updater capabilities across more partners. Average time to revenue for new partners was reduced by about one-third compared with 2025, AI automation reduced setup time from weeks to minutes, and zero-touch underwriting became generally available for Payrix partners.
  • AI Product Innovation and Agentic Commerce PositioningGlobal Payments is using AI across products, operations and emerging commerce models. Transactions through ChatGPT are live on the platform in the U.S. for one of its largest clients. Genius AI provides answers from a client's business data, an AI-first Genius handheld is being developed, and AI-powered drive-through vision and order routing are being piloted with large QSR clients. The company is also helping define Google's Universal Commerce Protocol payments roadmap and is building modular capabilities for authentication, fraud, authorization, disputes, identity, intent and payment optimization in agentic commerce.
  • AI-Enabled Operational ImprovementsAI is being used to improve cash forecasting, anticipate currency exposures, identify interchange savings opportunities, identify cross-sell opportunities, predict churn risk, prioritize sales leads and automate chargeback and dispute processing. In underwriting, an AI-enabled solution is designed to reduce review times from roughly an hour to 10 minutes and increase capacity without adding headcount.
  • SMB Revenue Growth and Value-Added-Service MixSMB adjusted net revenue was $1.55 billion, representing normalized growth of 5% excluding dispositions. Adjusted operating income was $928 million, representing a 60% contribution margin. Revenue growth exceeded volume growth because of greater adoption of value-added services, including a 60% year-over-year increase in Genius yields.
  • Free Cash Flow and Balance Sheet StrengthAdjusted free cash flow was $870 million, representing approximately 92% conversion of adjusted net income to adjusted free cash flow. Capital expenditures were $232 million, or approximately 7% of adjusted net revenue. The company ended the quarter with approximately $6.3 billion of available liquidity and 3.4x net leverage; more than 90% of indebtedness was fixed rate, with a weighted average cost of approximately 4%.
  • Full-Year 2026 Outlook ReaffirmedManagement reaffirmed normalized constant-currency adjusted net revenue growth of approximately 4% to 5%, normalized adjusted operating-margin expansion of approximately 150 basis points, adjusted EPS of $13.60 to $13.80 representing 11% to 13% growth, and roughly no currency impact on reported growth. The company also expects adjusted-net-income-to-adjusted-free-cash-flow conversion of 90% for full-year 2026.
  • Planned Investment and Long-Term Growth PrioritiesThe company continues to expect to invest approximately $1 billion in the business in 2026, or approximately 8% of adjusted net revenue. Management said the investment will support the strategy, technology architecture modernization, product innovation and growth across SMB, enterprise and platforms.
  • Confidence Entering 2027Management said commercial momentum remains strong across Genius, platforms and enterprise, including enterprise year-to-date bookings growth of 23%. It expects the ongoing Worldpay integration and incremental synergies to provide a margin tailwind in 2027, while targeting durable, sustainable mid-single-digit growth, continued margin expansion and substantial free-cash-flow generation.
