Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Cash GenerationSustained operating cash flow and multi-billion free cash flow provide durable financial flexibility to fund R&D, dealer financing, capital expenditures and shareholder returns. Reliable cash generation helps the company withstand equipment cycle troughs and supports long-term strategic investments.
Diversified End-market And Product MomentumStronger Small Ag & Turf and Construction & Forestry growth alongside accelerating product and connectivity adoption reduces dependence on large‑ag cyclicality. Broad portfolio and rising digital adoption increase recurring service opportunities and dealer lock‑in over multiple years.
Improved Balance Sheet LeverageMaterial reduction in leverage versus prior years meaningfully lowers financial risk for a cyclical capital goods company. A stronger balance sheet improves resilience to downturns, supports dealer and customer financing, and preserves capacity for M&A or share repurchases.
Bears Say
Large-ag Cyclical WeaknessDeclines in large‑ag equipment reflect weaker farmer economics, especially in Brazil, and reduce exposure to Deere’s typically higher‑ticket, higher‑margin machines. Prolonged weakness in this segment can materially depress revenue, margins and dealer parts/service volumes over multiple quarters.
Ongoing Tariff ExposureSustained tariff costs represent a recurring margin headwind and policy uncertainty. The recent refund was one‑time, so reported margins may overstate underlying profitability; persistent tariffs could erode pricing power and require offsetting price actions or cost cuts.
Margin Normalization And Cost PressuresMargins have normalized from cycle peaks amid higher input, freight and indirect costs. If persistent, this reduces free cash flow conversion and limits reinvestment or returns. Sustained margin pressure demands continued mix improvement, pricing realization, or structural cost reductions.

This division also resells products from other manufacturers. Its customer base includes dairy and livestock farmers, other crop producers, and general turf and utility clients.
