Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was predominantly positive. Armstrong reported record third-quarter sales, double-digit adjusted EBITDA and EPS growth, margin expansion in both segments, strong Architectural Specialties demand, continued growth in data centers and other initiatives, and increased shareholder returns. These strengths were tempered by rapid freight, raw material, metal, steel, and tariff inflation; unfavorable Mineral Fiber mix; lower year-to-date free cash flow; acquisition execution challenges; and reduced full-year profitability and cash flow guidance.Company Guidance
Record Third-Quarter Sales and Double-Digit Earnings Growth
The company delivered record third-quarter sales, with net sales increasing 12%, adjusted EBITDA increasing 11%, and adjusted diluted EPS increasing 10%. Both operating segments contributed to the performance and expanded adjusted EBITDA margins year over year.
Mineral Fiber Growth and Margin Expansion
Mineral Fiber net sales increased 7%, driven by 6% AUV growth and positive volume growth. Adjusted EBITDA increased 8%, while adjusted EBITDA margin expanded 40 basis points to 44%, the segment's strongest third-quarter adjusted EBITDA margin since 2019.
Architectural Specialties Delivered Record Organic Growth
Architectural Specialties net sales increased 22%, including 16% organic growth, the highest quarterly organic growth rate in the segment's history. Adjusted EBITDA increased 25%, and adjusted EBITDA margin expanded 60 basis points to 19.4%. On an organic basis, adjusted EBITDA margin exceeded 20%.
Strong Architectural Specialties Demand and Order Intake
Architectural Specialties growth was broad-based across transportation, healthcare, education, and other commercial applications. Order intake again increased at a double-digit rate, following multiple consecutive quarters of double-digit intake and providing a healthy foundation entering 2027.
Manufacturing Reliability and Customer Service Records
The Mineral Fiber manufacturing network achieved an all-time record for plant reliability, exceeding its prior record from the second quarter, while maintaining perfect order fulfillment at high levels.
Growth Initiatives Continued to Add Volume and Earnings
Kanopi delivered double-digit revenue and Mineral Fiber volume growth year to date, along with meaningful EBITDA improvement, while expanding its digital capabilities into grid and Architectural Specialties. ProjectWorks also continued to grow, adding Mineral Fiber volume and assisting designers and contractors during design and pre-construction.
Data Center and Mission-Critical Project Momentum
Through the third quarter, both ceiling and DYNAMAX structural grid data center sales exceeded full-year revenue plans. A recently won advanced-manufacturing research facility project spans almost 500,000 square feet and represents a multimillion-dollar order for the SKYLO walkable ceiling system.
Broad Market Exposure and Premium Project Demand
The company reported steady activity across diverse verticals, with strength in transportation, healthcare, and data centers. Management also cited increased demand for high-value, experiential infrastructure in airports, stadiums, arenas, and hospitality environments, including projects with greater design intensity per square foot.
Portfolio Breadth Supported Larger Customer Opportunities
The combined portfolio of Mineral Fiber, metal, wood, felt, structural systems, and design capabilities is enabling Armstrong to engage earlier, pursue more specifications, and address more of customers' ceiling and wall requirements through one partner.
SeaTac Terminal C Demonstrated Integrated Capabilities
The completed Seattle Tacoma International Airport Terminal C project combined four distinct wood products with metal ceiling and Mineral Fiber solutions, demonstrating Armstrong's ability to deliver complex, high-design architectural spaces in collaboration with architects.
TEMPLOK Specification Pipeline Expanded
The company reported progress in TEMPLOK energy-saving ceilings, particularly in specification activity. A case study at a pediatric therapy facility in Charlotte was cited as a real-world validation of TEMPLOK's quieter and cooler environment.
WAVE and Data Center Contributions
WAVE made a solid contribution to Mineral Fiber adjusted EBITDA, including a $4 million year-over-year increase in equity earnings in the third quarter. WAVE benefited from higher commercial and Canadian volumes, while data centers also contributed to its top-line growth.
Capital Returns and Balance Sheet Strength
The company announced a 10% quarterly dividend increase, its eighth consecutive annual increase since the dividend program began in 2018. Third-quarter shareholder returns included $15 million of dividends and $75 million of share repurchases; year-to-date dividends totaled $45 million and share repurchases totaled $210 million. More than $1 billion remained under the share repurchase authorization as of September 30, 2026, and management described the balance sheet as healthy with low leverage and ample liquidity.
Strategic Acquisitions Expanded Capabilities
Eventscape, Parallel, and Geometrik contributed to Architectural Specialties revenue growth. Management said the acquisitions are expanding materials, capabilities, specifications, and customer solutions, with the strategic rationale remaining compelling and a clear path toward the 20% Architectural Specialties adjusted EBITDA margin target as the businesses are integrated and scaled.
Improved Full-Year Revenue Guidance
Full-year total company net sales growth guidance increased to 10%-11% from 9%-11%. Architectural Specialties organic sales growth is now expected in the low teens range, up from the prior assumption of growth in the high single digits, and full-year AS sales growth guidance increased to 18%-19% from 15%-17%.
Pricing and Productivity Actions Remained Active
Management cited enhanced productivity, spending controls, optimized transportation, and market-based pricing as mitigation actions. The company continues to target roughly 3% productivity gains, including reduced downtime and scrap, and implemented additional 2026 price increases across Mineral Fiber, Architectural Specialties, and WAVE.
Year-to-Date Revenue and Earnings Growth
For the first nine months of 2026, net sales increased 10%, adjusted EBITDA increased 7%, and adjusted diluted EPS increased 9%. EPS growth was driven primarily by higher net earnings and partly by a lower share count resulting from increased share repurchases.
