Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 22, 2026|% Change Since:0.70%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Neutral

ASUR reported strong revenue growth, completed major acquisitions, expanded and diversified its airport portfolio, advanced its U.S. commercial platform, and maintained substantial investment and shareholder distributions. However, these positives were balanced by declining passenger traffic, particularly in Mexico and Puerto Rico, a cautious winter outlook, a 7.4 percentage-point decline in adjusted EBITDA margin, higher leverage, and expected near-term cost pressures. The call conveyed a balanced outlook with meaningful strategic progress but continued operating challenges.

Company Guidance

For next year, ASUR expects to invest close to MXN 6 billion in Mexico, MXN 1.8 billion in Costa Rica, MXN 1.7 billion in Puerto Rico, MXN 1.5 billion in Brazil, MXN 414 million in our U.S. commercial operation, MXN 230 million in Colombia, and MXN 213 million in Curaçao, for a total of MXN 11 billion, funded with resources generated by the operation of the region, except for Puerto Rico; the company does not expect any more leverage next year. The expanded Terminal 1 at Cancún is expected to open toward the end of the first quarter next year, Terminal 4 is expected to be operational at year-end 2028, additional solar panels are expected to become operational in 2027 and could generate an additional 8 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy annually, and the U.S. margin will increase from 11% as Terminal 1 and a new space at Chicago O'Hare begin operations. Tulum is expected to reach 700,000 passengers this year and be around 700,000, 800,000 passengers next year; Brazil CapEx next year is almost the same as 2028, is going to be almost the same as 2027, and then it reduces.

  • CPC Aeroportos Acquisition Expanded ASUR’s Global FootprintASUR completed the acquisition of CPC Aeroportos from Motiva on September 1, adding 20 airports, primarily in Brazil, as well as airports in Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Curaçao. The final purchase price was BRL 5.5 billion, or approximately $992 million, after customary closing adjustments.
  • Portfolio Scale and Geographic DiversificationASUR now operates 36 airports across seven countries and has commercial operations at three major U.S. airports. On a pro forma basis, the combined airport portfolio served approximately 120 million passengers in 2025, up from 70 million reported last year. Management said the broader portfolio reduces dependence on Mexico and on a single airport.
  • U.S. Commercial Platform Continues to ExpandASUR is developing non-regulated, dollar-denominated commercial revenues at JFK, LAX, and Chicago O'Hare. The new Terminal 1 is expected to open toward the end of the first quarter next year, while additional commercial spaces at LAX are being developed for the 2028 Olympic Games.
  • Internalization of Technical Assistance ApprovedShareholders approved bringing the technical assistance and technology-transfer service provided by ITA in-house. Management said the change will simplify the structure, retain expertise within ASUR, eliminate the recurring external technical assistance fee of approximately MXN 401 million in 2025, and create an opportunity for higher EBITDA once implemented.
  • Cancún Capacity and Passenger Experience InvestmentsThe remodel and expansion of Cancún Terminal 1 is expected to be completed during the fourth quarter, followed by operational readiness and transfer to begin operations in the first quarter. Management said the terminal will redistribute passenger flows, relieve pressure on Terminal 2, add commercial capabilities, and improve passenger experience.
  • Additional Cancún Terminal 4 Expansion PlannedASUR is investing in Cancún Terminal 4, with the project expected to be operational at year-end 2028. The investment will provide 12 additional boarding gates, in addition to four gates added during 2027 and three more associated with the Terminal 1 expansion, connecting taxiway, and related infrastructure.
  • Shareholder Returns MaintainedASUR announced two extraordinary dividends of MXN 10 each, payable on November 30 and December 23 of this year.
  • Renewable Energy ProgressDuring the third quarter, ASUR began procuring clean energy from a third-party supplier in Mexico, purchasing 13.1 million kilowatt hours, representing more than 40% of electricity consumption at its Mexican airports during the quarter. Additional solar panels in parking facilities are expected to become operational in 2027 and could generate 8 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy annually. ASUR also received Airports Council International’s Green Airport Recognition for its digital renewable energy management system project.
  • Colombia and Brazil and Others Traffic GrowthColombia traffic increased just over 5%, reflecting growth in both domestic and international traffic and benefiting from better connectivity and healthy demand. Brazil and Others increased just over 1% in September and added nearly 4 million passengers, with low single-digit growth in Brazil and Ecuador more than offsetting low single-digit declines in Costa Rica and Curaçao.
  • Revenue Growth Despite Softer Mexican and Puerto Rican TrafficConsolidated revenue increased nearly 13% to MXN 7.8 billion. Non-aeronautical revenue grew just under 27%, including MXN 456 million from U.S. operations, MXN 362 million from the first month of Brazil and Others consolidation, and 16% growth in Colombia.
  • Aeronautical Revenue IncreasedAeronautical revenue increased 5% to MXN 4.8 billion, including a MXN 315 million contribution from Brazil and Others. Higher passenger traffic supported Colombia’s aeronautical revenue, while Puerto Rico’s aeronautical revenue increased primarily because of the exchange rate difference.
  • Commercial Revenue per Passenger Improved OverallConsolidated commercial revenue per passenger increased 3.5% to MXN 130.5, mainly reflecting the contribution of the U.S. commercial operations. Puerto Rico reported the highest commercial revenue per passenger at MXN 163.3, up 2%, while Colombia delivered double-digit growth to MXN 65.2.
  • Commercial Footprint ExpandedASUR opened 39 new commercial spaces over the past 12 months across Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Colombia: 31 in Colombia, seven in Puerto Rico, and one in Mexico.
  • Consolidated EBITDA IncreasedConsolidated EBITDA increased 1.7% to MXN 4.7 billion. Brazil and Others contributed MXN 313 million in September and U.S. commercial operations added MXN 49 million. Puerto Rico EBITDA increased 7%, driven by lower operating costs, and Colombia EBITDA increased nearly 2%.
  • Debt Refinancing Extended MaturitiesCancún Airport issued $1.8 billion of senior notes in two tranches, with $900 million due in 2031 and $900 million due in 2036. The notes carry investment-grade ratings from S&P and Fitch. Net proceeds were used to repay bridge facilities for the U.S. and CPC acquisitions, repay the remaining Santander loan, and partially prepay the BBVA loan. The refinancing extended debt maturities by seven years on average.
  • Large Investment Program Planned for Next YearASUR expects to invest a total of MXN 11 billion next year: close to MXN 6 billion in Mexico, MXN 1.8 billion in Costa Rica, MXN 1.7 billion in Puerto Rico, MXN 1.5 billion in Brazil, MXN 414 million in U.S. commercial operations, MXN 230 million in Colombia, and MXN 213 million in Curaçao. Management expects these investments to be funded by regional operating cash flow, except for Puerto Rico.
  • Brazil and Regional Infrastructure Projects AdvancingPlanned projects include the second phase of Cancún Terminal 4 expansion, construction of a second runway at Curitiba Airport targeted for completion in 2029, runway refurbishments at Belo Horizonte, Goiânia, Teresina, and São Luís targeted for completion in 2027, and the first phase of the San José Airport terminal expansion in Costa Rica targeted for completion in 2027.
  • No Additional Leverage Expected Next YearManagement said the MXN 11 billion of planned capital expenditures should be funded by cash flow generation in each region and that ASUR does not expect any more leverage next year.
  • Management Sees Improvement Opportunities in Acquired AirportsThe Brazil airports reported a 47% EBITDA margin in September. Management said it believes the airports can perform better in the future and identified opportunities in commercial revenue and operational efficiencies. ASUR also appointed José Formoso as Brazil CEO, citing his more than 20 years of experience in Brazil and a successful record managing concessions.
