Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Revenue Growth And Order-book VisibilityStrong recent growth, substantial work in hand and FY27 guidance provide multi-period revenue visibility. This supports better workforce and fleet utilisation and reduces reliance on winning entirely new contracts each quarter.
Improving Balance Sheet And Cash GenerationLower leverage and strong liquidity improve resilience through project delays, cost inflation or commodity weakness. Healthy operating cash flow also gives Macmahon greater capacity to fund maintenance capital and pursue growth without excessive financial strain.
Diversification And Improving Capital ReturnsExpansion beyond surface mining broadens Macmahon’s capabilities and revenue base across mine development and civil work. Higher ROACE indicates improving capital discipline, while segment growth may create a more balanced platform over time.
Bears Say
Thin And Volatile MarginsLow net margins leave limited protection against labour, fuel, equipment or contract-cost overruns. Margin volatility and lower-margin civil and underground work could constrain earnings growth even if revenue expands.
Gold Concentration And Operating Cost ExposureA high gold exposure links client activity and contract economics to one commodity’s investment and production cycle. Persistent diesel and energy volatility can also compress project margins where costs cannot be fully recovered.
Tender Conversion And Capital-spend UncertaintyA large pipeline does not guarantee future revenue, and delayed or unsuccessful awards could leave capacity underutilised. Significant sustaining and growth capital requirements may also make cash flow more variable as projects and fleet needs change.

Macmahon Holdings Limited, founded in Perth, Australia, in 1963, delivers comprehensive mining and civil construction services to companies within the mining sector. Its operations span Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and South Africa, structured across three key segments: Surface Mining, Underground Mining, and International Mining. In its Surface Mining division, Macmahon offers a broad spectrum of services including strategic mine planning and analysis, drilling and blasting, bulk and selective ore extraction, crushing and screening, fixed plant maintenance, water management, and complete equipment operation and upkeep. For Underground Mining, its capabilities encompass mine development and production, raise and production drilling, cable bolting, shotcreting, remote shaft lining, and shaft sinking. The company further extends its expertise to significant civil infrastructure projects. MCHHF Earnings Call
Q4 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call conveyed a strongly positive operational and financial performance: record revenue and EBITA, improved ROACE (22%), substantial cash generation, a 32% reduction in net debt, higher dividends (up 47%), and clear segment diversification progress (Underground and Civil growing to meaningful shares of revenue). Key risks highlighted include tax timing reducing free cash flow, higher borrowing costs, concentration to gold (52% of revenue), commodity/energy cost pressure, and the normal uncertainty around tender conversion and timing. Overall the positives (record results, improved returns, balance sheet strength, robust pipeline and clear growth targets) materially outweigh the identified lowlights.View all MCHHF earnings summariesTechnical Analysis
