Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Backlog And DOE FundingThe $4.5B backlog, including substantial definitive agreements, provides multi-year demand visibility through 2040. The $900M DOE task order also supports capacity expansion without relying entirely on new debt or equity, strengthening Centrus’s ability to pursue domestic enrichment growth.
HALEU Commercial MomentumEarly completion of HALEU demonstration requirements and contracted offtake with prepayments indicate progress from development toward commercial adoption. These agreements can help finance capacity expansion while positioning Centrus in an emerging advanced-reactor and national-security fuel market.
Vertical Manufacturing IntegrationAcquiring Westerman brings manufacturing of important centrifuge components inside Centrus and secures a key supplier for planned capacity expansion. Greater control over production capabilities may improve project execution, reduce costs, and add industrial revenue diversification.
Bears Say
Negative Cash GenerationNegative operating and free cash flow indicate that current earnings are not translating into internally generated funding. Continued investment and working-capital demands could require greater reliance on the cash balance or external financing while enrichment capacity is being developed.
Margin And Cost PressureThe decline in gross and net margins shows weaker operating leverage despite higher revenue. Rising cost of sales, SG&A, and advanced-technology spending could limit earnings conversion and make future profitability more dependent on successful scale-up and cost discipline.
Execution And Leverage RiskElevated debt relative to equity increases financial sensitivity as Centrus funds a large expansion program. At the same time, unresolved supplier contracts and manufacturing scale-up requirements create execution pressure before the targeted 2029 commercial production milestone.

Company Description
Centrus Energy Corp
Centrus Energy Corp. is a global provider of essential nuclear fuel and associated services to the nuclear power industry, serving markets including the United States, Japan, and Belgium. The company operates through two primary divisions: Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) and Technical Solutions. The LEU segment specializes in supplying key components for nuclear energy production, offering separative work units (SWU) — either as a standalone part of LEU or combined with natural uranium — as well as natural uranium, primarily to utilities operating nuclear power plants. Conversely, the Technical Solutions segment offers a comprehensive array of services, encompassing technical expertise, manufacturing, engineering design, procurement, construction management, and operational support. This segment caters to both public and private sector clients, with notable involvement in projects such as the engineering and testing of the American Centrifuge. Established in 1998, the company was formerly known as USEC Inc. before officially changing its name to Centrus Energy Corp. in September 2014. Its corporate headquarters are situated in Bethesda, Maryland.

LEU Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call conveyed substantial operational and commercial progress—material backlog expansion ($4.5B), a $900M DOE task order, HALEU offtakes (including prepayments), completion of demo HALEU requirements ahead of schedule, a strong cash position ($1.9B), and a near-term milestone of the first centrifuge in 2026. These positives were tempered by near-term profitability pressures (GAAP net income and EPS declines), higher costs (LEU cost of sales +36%, increased SG&A and advanced technology costs), reduced SWU volumes (-23%) and continued execution and supply-chain risks as capital spending ramps toward 2029 production. Overall, the operational wins and secured funding/backlog meaningfully outweigh the near-term financial headwinds and execution risks.View all LEU earnings summariesLEU Revenue Breakdown
