Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call was broadly positive, supported by strong margins, MXN 450 million of quarterly cost savings, year-to-date EBITDA and EPS growth, a healthy balance sheet, continued Consumer Products growth, and promising innovation, private label, and pet food initiatives. These positives were partly offset by flat quarterly sales, weak consumer demand, declines in Away from Home and exports, persistent input-cost and labor pressures, higher SG&A and financing costs, and a delayed Kenvue analysis.
Management expects weak consumer demand to stretch through the end of the year, with cost pressures continuing through the fourth quarter, “maybe at slightly lower levels”; Away from Home is expected to have a “slightly better fourth quarter and hopefully, a much better 2027.” Going into 2027, it expects “steady improvements in demand,” “increased, although still moderate,” domestic spending, and Consumer Products growth returning to “mid-single digit” if domestic consumption strengthens. Private label is expected to “accelerate significantly next year”; the business will likely grow “a little bit more than double in size” this year, with “the same thing to happen next year.” Pricing is “very likely” to move ahead, selectively by category and, in some cases, specific SKUs, while cost-reduction efforts are being accelerated; CapEx is expected to remain “between MXN 100 million and MXN 120 million for the year” in the following years, and the long-term EBITDA margin range remains “25% to 27%.”
- Strong Profitability Despite Cost PressuresGross profit increased 3.7% and gross margin was 40.3%. Operating profit increased 2.3%, while operating margin improved 60 basis points year-over-year to 21.9%. EBITDA increased 1.6% to MXN 3.4 billion, with an EBITDA margin of 25.5%, within the company's long-term range.
- Year-to-Date Earnings GrowthFor the year, sales were up 2%, while EBITDA increased 7% and earnings per share increased 8%.
- Successful Cost Reduction ProgramThe cost reduction program generated approximately MXN 450 million of savings during the quarter through global fiber contracting, sourcing changes, alternative fibers, product redesigns, new raw materials in nonwoven fabrics, diaper geometry redesigns, and logistics and distribution efficiencies.
- Consumer Products Growth for Fifth Consecutive QuarterConsumer Products sales increased 1.8%, with balanced contributions from volume and price and mix: 0.9% volume growth and 0.9% price and mix growth. The business delivered growth for the fifth consecutive quarter.
- Distribution EfficiencyDistribution expenses were flat despite cost headwinds as the company continued improving its footprint and streamlining logistics operations.
- Healthy Balance Sheet and LiquidityThe company reported a total cash position of MXN 20.2 billion as of September 30. Net debt-to-EBITDA was 0.8x and EBITDA-to-net-interest coverage was 9x.
- Stable Quarterly Net Income and EPSQuarterly net income and earnings per share were in line with the prior year at MXN 1.7 billion and MXN 0.56, respectively.
- Away from Home Sequential ImprovementAlthough Away from Home sales decreased 4.7% year-over-year, the business improved 1.7% sequentially in the third quarter, with a particularly stronger September. Management expects a slightly better fourth quarter and a much better 2027 as the economy gains traction.
- Innovation Pipeline ExpansionThe company reported strong innovation activity in fem care, adult care, and diapers. It is introducing a new diaper with a new absorbent core, described as first in market in Mexico, and expects additional innovations to reach consumers in 2027.
- Technology-Enabled Efficiency InitiativesThe company is accelerating plans involving automation, digitalization, and other technology applications to improve end-to-end efficiency and costs. Management expects these efforts to ramp up and accelerate during 2027 and 2028.
- Private Label Business ScalingThe private label business is making inroads with several clients and is expected to accelerate significantly next year. Management said the business will likely more than double in size this year and expects it to double again next year, supported by both new business wins and growth in private label categories overall.
- Healthy Branded Market SharesManagement said branded product shares remain very healthy. Value shares are either increasing or stable and remain very healthy across pretty much all categories, despite the company's more cautious promotional approach.
- Positive Pet Food Consumer ResponseThe pet food initiative has delivered good results after a little over a year, particularly in the premium segment, where consumer response has been very good. The company continues to grow as expected and plans to bring product improvements and innovations to market.
- Broad-Based Investment and CapEx AllocationCapEx is expected to remain between MXN 100 million and MXN 120 million for the year and at a similar level in following years. Investments are directed toward innovation in diapers, incontinence or adult care, and fem care, as well as productivity, efficiency, and capacity where needed.
- Long-Term Margin ConfidenceManagement reiterated its long-term margin range of 25% to 27% and said it feels comfortable being able to stay within that range, while acknowledging that individual quarters may be above or below the range.
- Constructive 2027 Economic OutlookManagement expects steady improvements in demand in 2027, supported by an economic recovery that is slowly gaining traction. It cited increasing private investment, expected growth in public investment, stronger industrial production behind export-oriented manufacturing and resilient construction activity, and continued salary-mass growth.
- Strategic Growth PrioritiesThe KCM Plus strategy focuses on improving core businesses, accelerating diamond categories through consumer-centric innovation and stronger commercial execution, increasing participation in private label, entering growth categories including pet food, improving the end-to-end cost structure, and strengthening capabilities across consumer, retail, and technology trends.
