Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call presented a mixed outlook. The company highlighted substantial clean-energy capacity additions, positive overseas and segment-level profitability, improving PV performance, lower wind costs and curtailment, and plans for further renewable and energy-storage development. However, these positives were offset by a 4.12% revenue decline, a 47.29% decline in shareholder-attributable net profit, lower power sales and average tariffs, higher coal costs, losses at a significant share of coal-fired units, weaker demand growth, and incomplete cost pass-through. Overall, the positive operational and transformation developments were balanced by significant financial and market pressures.
For the fourth quarter of 2026, the company will improve research and analyzation towards power demand and supply, guide mid and long term electricity contracts, better balance price and production, improve efficiency, control coal cost via multiple channels, optimize fuel supply structure, and prepare for 2027 mid and long-term contract signing. The company expects “a slightly improve in the tariff at the signing price in the year of 2027” and said medium and long-term contract signing price will be “stable, while we will see a slight increase”; 2026 power consumption growth is expected to be “around 4%,” while 2027 demand and supply will be “in the balance or compared to the loose state.” Renewable-sector tariffs are “experiencing its bottom” and are expected to “see a rebound in the near future”; about 10 GW of renewables are under construction, and the 2027 installed-capacity increase plan will “keep stable,” with precision data disclosed at some time.
- Clean-Energy Capacity ExpansionFrom the beginning of 2026 through the end of September, the company added 5.16 GW of installed capacity, including 3.93 GW of wind and solar and 1.23 GW of gas-fired capacity. Total installed capacity under control reached 160 GW, while low-carbon clean energy represented 42.92%.
- Overseas Operations Delivered Positive EBITTuas Power achieved EBIT of CNY 1.12 billion through the end of September, while the Sahiwal plant in Pakistan achieved EBIT of CNY 711 million and delivered the desired operating results.
- Renewable and Gas-Fired Profit ContributionsFor the first three quarters, wind power generated CNY 4.18 billion of profit, PV generated CNY 2.35 billion, gas-fired units generated CNY 1.21 billion, hydropower generated CNY 114 million, and coal-fired units generated CNY 6.85 billion. In the third quarter alone, PV generated CNY 1.48 billion of net profit, wind generated CNY 886 million, gas generated CNY 203 million, and coal generated CNY 662 million.
- PV Sector Improved Quarter on QuarterPV-sector losses improved quarter-on-quarter because third-quarter PV delivered a marginal contribution of CNY 148 million, supported by increases in power generation and market-settled tariff. The third-quarter PV tariff was CNY 372.4/MWh, up CNY 1.5/MWh quarter-on-quarter, while generation reached 8.53 billion kWh, an increase of 870 million kWh.
- Wind Power Cost and Curtailment ImprovementsThird-quarter wind-power cost decreased to CNY 313.6/MWh, down about CNY 17/MWh year-on-year. The wind-power curtailment rate was about 11% from January to September, improving from about 13% in the first half of the year.
- Wind Power Profitability Increased Year on YearThird-quarter wind-power profitability was CNY 108.5/MWh, about CNY 20/MWh higher than in the third quarter of 2025, despite the wind settlement tariff decreasing by CNY 3/MWh year-on-year to CNY 457.4/MWh.
- Gas-Fired Units Remained ProfitableGas-fired units generated CNY 237 million of profit in the third quarter, with profitability increasing by CNY 320 million for the period discussed. Third-quarter gas-fired tariff was CNY 721/MWh and unit fuel cost was about CNY 471/MWh.
- Coal-Fired Units Maintained Positive Unit ProfitabilityCoal-fired units achieved profitability of CNY 28.6/MWh during the first three quarters. Many coal-fired units remained profitable in the third quarter, including plants in Shandong, Shanghai, Henan, Chongqing, and Guangdong. The company also stated that coal-price increases had been passed through to tariffs, although not fully.
- Coal Procurement and Cost-Control MeasuresManagement said it adjusted coal procurement plans, improved fulfillment of mid- and long-term contracts, used spot-market procurement more strategically, and upgraded inventory management. It also plans to optimize fuel-supply structure and prepare for 2027 mid- and long-term contracts.
- Renewable Subsidy Receivables Slightly DeclinedRenewable subsidy receivables were CNY 23.08 billion at the beginning of the year and CNY 22.98 billion at the end of the third quarter. Management said subsidy receivables and incremental subsidy were balanced during the year.
- Fourth-Quarter and 2027 Contract PlanningFor the fourth quarter, the company plans to improve power-demand and supply analysis, guide mid- and long-term electricity-contract signing, balance price and production, and improve efficiency. Management expects 2027 mid- and long-term contract signing prices to be stable with a slight increase, and believes tariffs may see a rebound under policy and fuel-market conditions.
- Energy-Storage Development Became More Market DrivenThe company is developing new types of energy-storage facilities and has shifted from a policy-driven to a market-driven approach following implementation of Document No. 136. Future construction plans will be based on grid and market conditions in each province and on maximizing storage effectiveness.
