Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Improved ProfitabilityThe return to substantial profitability after losses in 2021–2022 indicates a meaningful improvement in operating economics. A healthy EBITDA margin provides a stronger base for funding maintenance, investment and debt obligations over the next several quarters.
Positive Cash GenerationPositive operating and free cash flow shows that the power-generation business is converting operations into funds after investment needs. This supports ongoing plant operations and provides internally generated resources for capital spending, dividends or debt reduction.
Improved ReturnsThe recovery in return on equity demonstrates that the company has restored earnings capacity following the weak 2021–2022 period. Positive returns can strengthen access to capital and improve the economics of maintaining and developing its generation portfolio.
Bears Say
High LeverageLeverage at roughly 3.2 times debt-to-equity is a substantial constraint for a capital-intensive utility. The sharp increase from prior years raises sensitivity to interest costs and refinancing needs, reducing flexibility to invest or absorb weaker operating conditions.
Weak Cash ConversionModest free-cash-flow conversion means reported earnings are not translating into equivalent discretionary cash resources. The decline in FCF further limits the funds available for debt service, dividends and generation investment, particularly while leverage remains elevated.
Revenue PressureThe recent revenue contraction suggests pressure from electricity demand, dispatch levels or realized tariffs, even though profitability has improved. If weaker volumes or pricing persist, they could flatten earnings momentum and make margin gains harder to sustain.
