Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Margin RecoveryMaterial improvement in gross and net margins in 2024–25 suggests regained pricing power and/or better cost control. Sustained margins at these levels would strengthen recurring earnings, improve cash generation and support dividends and reinvestment, enhancing long-term earnings durability.
Manageable Leverage & Improving ROEDebt-to-equity below 1.0 with rising equity and improving ROE points to a more resilient capital structure. Manageable leverage increases financial flexibility for capex, working-capital needs and opportunistic investments, reducing refinancing risk across cycles.
Free Cash Flow ReboundA return to positive operating and free cash flow demonstrates the business can convert earnings into cash when conditions normalize. Durable positive FCF would enable debt paydown, steady dividends and self-funded capex, improving long-term financial self-sufficiency.
Bears Say
Volatile Cash GenerationPersistent multi-year negative FCF through 2024 and sharp swings highlight unstable cash conversion. Continued working-capital volatility or heavy reinvestment needs could force external financing during downturns and constrain strategic options, raising execution risk.
Choppy Revenue TrendsIrregular top-line growth underscores demand sensitivity in packaging/tissue end markets. Inconsistent revenue makes capacity planning and fixed-cost absorption harder, amplifying earnings volatility and complicating longer-term investment and pricing strategies.
Margins Below Prior-Cycle Peaks; Input SensitivityDespite recent improvement, net margins still lag prior-cycle highs and depend on spreads versus volatile raw material and energy costs. Limited structural margin cushion leaves profits vulnerable if input costs rise or selling prices soften, pressuring long-term profitability.
