Q3 2026 Earnings Slide Deck
Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call was strongly positive overall. Management reported record Engineered Systems bookings and backlog, strong free cash flow, higher net earnings, low leverage, solid compression utilization, growing power-generation demand, and a higher dividend. The main challenges were lower year-over-year gross margin dollars and ROCE, higher core SG&A, Engineered Systems capacity constraints, and equipment supply limitations, but these were presented alongside ongoing expansion and growth initiatives.
Enerflex is on track to exceed $3 billion in Engineered Systems bookings during 2026, with backlog at $2.1 billion providing visibility into future activity levels through 2028, and continues to target customer supported U.S. contract compression fleet growth of 10% to 15% during 2026. The company continues to target organic capital expenditures of $185 million to $195 million during 2026, including organic growth capital expenditures of approximately $100 million, maintenance capital expenditures of approximately $55 million, and PP and E and infrastructure investments of $30 million to $40 million, with $85 million expected to be incurred during 2027. Enerflex said its power generation margins are accretive to current reported historical ES margins, but that is not going to hit until likely late 2027, call it Q4 into 2028. The company sees probably an additional 1.5 to 2 gigawatts of data center opportunities, while behind the meter natural gas-fired power generation projects in backlog now exceeds 1.75 gigawatts.
- Record Engineered Systems BookingsEngineered Systems bookings were approximately $1 billion in Q3 2026. Bookings totaled approximately $2 billion in the first nine months of 2026, and the company is on track to exceed $3 billion for the full year, compared with the prior annual high watermark of approximately $1.5 billion in 2018.
- Record Backlog and Long-Term VisibilityEngineered Systems backlog increased to $2.1 billion at the end of Q3, providing visibility into future activity levels through 2028.
- Growing Power Generation PlatformEnerflex won a contract to design, engineer, fabricate, and assemble approximately 450 megawatts of behind-the-meter natural gas-fired power generation units for a North American data center developer. The company's behind-the-meter natural gas-fired power generation backlog now exceeds 1.75 gigawatts.
- Broad-Based Natural Gas Infrastructure DemandManagement said end-market demand remains broad-based across compression, gas processing, and power generation, with long-term demand for natural gas infrastructure described as durable and supported by long-term fundamentals.
- Strong Aftermarket Services ActivityAftermarket services continued to perform well, supported by healthy customer activity across key operating regions. Management highlighted the global installed base and growing service capabilities as sources of future commissioning, installation, maintenance, and digital-services opportunities.
- High U.S. Contract Compression UtilizationU.S. contract compression utilization remained strong at 94%, while the fleet increased to approximately 521,000 horsepower at quarter end. Enerflex continues to target customer-supported fleet growth of 10% to 15% during 2026 and is securing long-lead components to support growth into 2029.
- Strategic Portfolio SimplificationEnerflex completed the divestiture of the majority of its Asia-Pacific operations. Management said the transaction advances its objectives of sharpening geographic focus, simplifying the business, and concentrating efforts on markets and product lines with the greatest long-term value-creation opportunities.
- Progress on Operational Improvement InitiativesThe company continued advancing the integration of its North American operations, supply-chain execution, lean continuous improvement, commercial execution, and digital enablement initiatives.
- ReliCore Digital EnablementEnerflex is expanding deployment of its ReliCore asset-performance ecosystem to provide remote monitoring, operational support, and asset-optimization solutions across traditional energy infrastructure and emerging power-generation applications. Management said these capabilities extend service coverage, accelerate issue resolution, and support advanced analytics and predictive maintenance.
- Solid Gross Margin PercentageGross margin before depreciation and amortization was $176 million, or 28% of revenue, in Q3 2026, compared with $206 million, or 27% of revenue, in the prior-year period and $173 million, or 30% of revenue, in Q2 2026.
- Strong Free Cash Flow GenerationFree cash flow was $102 million in Q3 2026, compared with $43 million in the prior-year period and $32 million in the prior quarter. The increase reflected higher cash from operations, including a $51 million net working-capital recovery.
- Higher Net Earnings and EPSNet earnings increased to $55 million, or $0.45 per share, from $37 million, or $0.30 per share, in the prior-year period and $30 million, or $0.25 per share, in Q2 2026.
- Improved Balance Sheet and LeverageEnerflex ended the quarter with net debt of $312 million, including $227 million of cash. Cash increased due to $62 million of proceeds from the Asia-Pacific divestiture and strong free cash flow generation. Bank-adjusted net debt to EBITDA improved to approximately 0.6x.
- Capital Expenditure Guidance MaintainedThe company continues to target 2026 capital expenditures of $185 million to $195 million, including approximately $100 million of organic growth capital, approximately $55 million of maintenance capital, and $30 million to $40 million for PP&E and infrastructure investments.
- Expansion of Engineered Systems CapacityEnerflex authorized investments of $30 million to $40 million in 2026 and expects to incur $85 million in 2027 to expand Engineered Systems facilities and capabilities. Management said the investments include incremental acreage, a test building, and a fabrication building, and will increase capacity and capabilities across facilities in Canada and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
- Accretive Power Generation Margins ExpectedManagement said margins on the Q3 power-generation win and a subsequent Q4 power-generation win are expected to be accretive to current reported historical Engineered Systems margins, although the impact is not expected until likely late 2027, described as Q4 into 2028.
- Dividend Increased for Third Consecutive YearThe Board increased the quarterly dividend by 17% to $0.0305 per common share, effective with the dividend payable in November 2026. Management said the increase reflects confidence in the business and the company's strong financial position.
- Additional Filtered Data Center OpportunityManagement said it had narrowed an original data-center opportunity set of a little over 7 gigawatts to approximately 2 gigawatts of serious opportunities, with approximately 1.8 gigawatts now in backlog. It also sees an additional 1.5 to 2 gigawatts of opportunities in a similarly filtered manner.
- Latin American Gas Processing WinEnerflex secured an incremental gas-processing order in Latin America and Argentina. Management described it as a meaningful order that remained within the trailing eight-quarter range for the core business.
