Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call was predominantly positive. Q3 performance improved materially, D&PD commercial indicators strengthened, Horizon savings were ahead of plan, the Vertex commercial-manufacturing selection advanced JEB, and full-year guidance was reaffirmed with expectations toward the upper end of the ranges. These positives outweighed the weaker nine-month revenue and EBITDA results, lower liquidity, delayed revenue conversion, lower expected Q4 milestones, and the planned 2027 manufacturing pause.
For full year 2026, Evotec reaffirmed group revenues of EUR 570 million-EUR 610 million on a reported basis and EUR 595 million-EUR 635 million at constant exchange rates, with adjusted group EBITDA between minus EUR 105 million and minus EUR 70 million, or between minus EUR 90 million and minus EUR 60 million at constant exchange rates; based on current visibility, both revenue and adjusted EBITDA are expected to finish toward the upper end of their respective guidance ranges. Horizon targets approximately EUR 75 million in run rate savings by the end of 2027, with 20%-30% planned for 2026 and more than 20% already delivered by the end of September. By 2030, Evotec’s ambition is around EUR 1 billion in group revenues, with an adjusted EBITDA margin of 20% by the end of 2028 and above 20% by the end of 2030; the framework comprises around 40% D&PD base business, another 20% D&PD strategic partnerships, and approximately 40% JEB, with D&PD base revenues expected to reach approximately EUR 400 million at a CAGR of around 10%, strategic partnerships approximately EUR 200 million at a CAGR of around 5%, and JEB approximately EUR 400 million at a CAGR of around 20%.
- Q3 Revenue Stabilized and EBITDA Approached Break-EvenQ3 2026 group revenue was EUR 164.9 million, broadly stable versus EUR 163.9 million in Q3 2025. Adjusted group EBITDA improved to negative EUR 1.6 million from negative EUR 15 million, bringing the group close to break-even, supported by stronger D&PD and JEB performance and a lower cost base.
- D&PD Commercial Momentum StrengthenedD&PD base-business net sales increased 24% year-over-year in the first nine months, exceeding the prior-year period in each quarter. Inbound leads increased by more than 45%, proposal turnaround time improved by approximately 20%, and the customer base increased by approximately 10%. Q3 revenue improvement was particularly visible in Discovery and Cyprotex.
- D&PD Pipeline and Strategic Opportunity Set ExpandedApproximately 20 strategic partnership opportunities currently represent around EUR 1 billion in total potential deal value, with several deals reaching late maturity. Proposal activity remained well above prior-year levels, and management said the pipeline remains robust.
- Vertex Selected JEB for Commercial ManufacturingVertex Pharmaceuticals selected Just – Evotec Biologics for the commercial manufacturing of povetacicept at the J.POD Redmond facility. Management described this as an important step toward commercial-scale readiness and said the relationship provides a strong anchor customer for planned capacity.
- JEB Capacity Expansion PlannedJEB plans to add a third manufacturing train at J.POD Redmond next year to support the next phase of growth and manufacturing commitments, including those to Vertex. Initial CapEx was incurred in 2026, with the remainder expected in 2027; total 2027 CapEx is expected to remain broadly in line with 2026.
- JEB Partnerships and Programs AdvancedThe Department of War orthopoxvirus antibody program advanced into a Phase I clinical trial after progressing from sequence to clinical supply. In D&PD, the first candidate from the Jazz Pharmaceuticals sleep-disorder collaboration advanced into Phase I, while new or recent collaborations include next-generation oncology approaches with Plectonic and AI-enabled drug discovery with Odyssey Therapeutics.
- Horizon Savings Program Ahead of PlanHorizon targets approximately EUR 75 million in annual run-rate savings by the end of 2027. The company planned to deliver 20%-30% of that target in 2026 and had already delivered more than 20% by the end of September, ahead of plan. Savings were visible across COGS and SG&A.
- Horizon Workforce and Footprint Measures ProgressedApproximately half of the announced workforce reductions had been implemented, representing around 400 of the planned 800 positions. Three of the four planned site closures are expected to be completed by year-end, with the fourth expected in the first quarter of 2027. Scientific capability consolidation across omics, infectious diseases, and protein science is well underway.
- Full-Year 2026 Guidance ReaffirmedManagement reaffirmed reported group-revenue guidance of EUR 570 million-EUR 610 million and constant-exchange-rate revenue guidance of EUR 595 million-EUR 635 million. Adjusted group EBITDA is expected between negative EUR 105 million and negative EUR 70 million on a reported basis, or between negative EUR 90 million and negative EUR 60 million at constant exchange rates. Based on current visibility, both revenue and adjusted EBITDA are expected toward the upper end of their respective ranges.
- Cost and Capital Discipline ImprovedFirst-nine-month R&D expenses decreased to EUR 29.7 million, or 6.4% of group revenue, from EUR 42.3 million, or 7.9%, in the prior-year period. CapEx was reduced to the company's goal of under 10% of revenue, reflecting a selective investment approach and a shift toward a more capital-efficient operating model.
- AI and Data Generation Are Producing Commercial ActivityManagement said AI-related work is already contributing to revenue growth in parts of the Cyprotex and Discovery businesses and that Evotec is actively working with customers on data generation across areas including chemical compound generation, DMPK, and toxicology and safety profiling. Evotec's Molecular Patient Database, built over a decade, was described as attracting significant partner interest.
- Scientific Leadership StrengthenedDr. Joanna Holbrook joined Evotec as Chief Scientific Officer and a member of the management board on November 1, succeeding Cord Dohrmann. She brings more than 25 years of international experience across pharma, biotech, and academia, including senior scientific leadership roles at Novo Nordisk and biomodal.
- 2030 Framework Targets Larger and More Profitable BusinessEvotec aims to generate around EUR 1 billion in group revenue by 2030, achieve a 20% adjusted EBITDA margin by the end of 2028, and exceed a 20% adjusted EBITDA margin by the end of 2030. The framework anticipates a 40% D&PD base-business, 20% D&PD strategic-partnership, and 40% JEB revenue mix. D&PD base revenue is expected to reach approximately EUR 400 million by 2030 at around a 10% CAGR, strategic partnerships approximately EUR 200 million at around a 5% CAGR, and JEB approximately EUR 400 million at around a 20% CAGR.
- Expected Margin Expansion Across Business LinesD&PD base-business gross margin is expected to rise above 20%, with strategic partnerships offering margin upside in excess of 15 percentage points versus the base business. JEB gross margin is expected to rise above 30% as commercial manufacturing, licensing, and future royalties expand.
- Sandoz and Licensing Contributions Remain Part of the Long-Term ModelManagement said the Sandoz transaction is in its 2026-2028 joint-development phase, with royalty payments from 10 molecules expected to contribute from 2029 and 2030. Evotec also said its licensing activities, including J.TRAIN, J.CHO, and J.Media, remain active and that future royalties are not included in the risk-adjusted 2030 outlook.
