Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong Network DemandAn industry-leading load factor and double-digit PRASM growth indicate strong network productivity and customer demand. Broad-based premium and corporate strength supports route economics, while disciplined capacity management can help preserve yields and sustain revenue quality over the next several quarters.
Aeroplan MonetizationThe Aeroplan transaction converts the loyalty platform’s strategic value into substantial capital without selling the entire business. Proceeds support debt repayment and potential shareholder returns, while retaining majority ownership preserves access to a recurring loyalty and partnership revenue stream.
Positive Liquidity And Cash GenerationPositive operating cash flow, quarterly free cash flow, and substantial liquidity provide funding for aircraft investment, debt maturities, and operations through demand or cost volatility. This financial cushion improves resilience and supports continued fleet renewal while management pursues deleveraging.
Bears Say
High Balance-sheet LeverageA large debt burden relative to equity leaves Air Canada financially sensitive to changes in travel demand, interest costs, foreign exchange, and operating performance. High leverage can restrict investment and capital allocation flexibility, making recovery less durable during an industry downturn.
Persistent Unit-cost And Fuel PressureRising unit costs can absorb revenue growth and limit margin expansion even when traffic and yields remain healthy. Labor, inflation, and currency pressures are structural operating headwinds, while fuel volatility adds further uncertainty to the sustainability of current earnings.
Free-cash-flow Execution DependenceReliance on sale-and-leaseback proceeds means guided free cash flow and capital returns are not based solely on recurring operating cash generation. If transactions are delayed or completed on less favorable terms, debt reduction, buybacks, and other funding priorities could be constrained.

Company Description
Air Canada
Air Canada functions as a full-service airline, providing an array of flights across Canada, over the U.S. border, and to various international destinations. The company delivers scheduled passenger services through its primary Air Canada brand, along with its Air Canada Vacations and Air Canada Rouge subsidiaries, serving domestic, Canada-U.S. transborder, and global routes from and to Canada. Additionally, it expands its network by utilizing capacity purchase agreements with other regional carriers. As of December 31, 2021, Air Canada maintained a significant fleet: its mainline operations comprised 175 aircraft (97 Boeing and Airbus narrow-body jets, and 78 Boeing and Airbus wide-body planes); the Air Canada Express division operated 123 aircraft (including 50 Mitsubishi regional jets, 48 De Havilland Dash-8 turboprops, and 25 Embraer 175s); and Air Canada Rouge employed 39 aircraft (specifically 14 Airbus A321s, 5 Airbus A320s, and 20 Airbus A319s). Beyond passenger transportation, the company also offers air cargo services on domestic, U.S. transborder, and international routes connecting Canada with markets in Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia. Furthermore, Air Canada is involved in the creation, promotion, and sale of vacation travel packages to popular regions such as the Caribbean, Mexico, the United States, Europe, Central and South America, the South Pacific, Australia, and Asia. It also arranges cruise packages across North America, Europe, and the Caribbean, and manages travel loyalty programs. Established in 1937, Air Canada's corporate headquarters are situated in Saint-Laurent, Canada.

ADH2 Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call highlighted robust top-line performance (record revenues +11% YoY), strong adjusted EBITDA ($719M) and exceptional balance sheet metrics (liquidity $8.9B, net leverage 1.7x), alongside strategic value realization via a $2.5B minority sale of Aeroplan that accelerates deleveraging and shareholder returns. Offsetting these positives are material near-term headwinds from fuel volatility (a $500M–$600M booking/fuel mismatch), higher operating costs (including $388M of excluded charges) and modest ASM growth, which pressure unit costs. On balance, the company demonstrated financial resilience and clear mitigation plans (fuel recapture expected to improve into Q4, sale-and-leaseback/SIB proceeds), so positives meaningfully outweigh the detractors.View all DE:ADH2 earnings summariesADH2 Stock 12 Month Forecast
