Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Profitability RecoveryThe return to solid earnings and positive operating profit shows that the utility has restored profitability after the 2022–2023 loss period. This strengthens internal funding capacity and provides a more stable base for maintaining essential generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure.
Positive Cash GenerationPositive operating and free cash flow across the latest three years indicates that the core business is again converting operations into funding. Sustained cash generation can support infrastructure investment, debt reduction, and ongoing service reliability without relying entirely on external financing.
Balance Sheet ImprovementThe rebuilding of equity and reduction in total debt since 2023 improve financial resilience relative to the downturn. Although leverage remains elevated, this direction of travel can gradually restore balance-sheet capacity and give management more flexibility over capital allocation.
Bears Say
Elevated LeverageDebt remains several times equity, leaving the company with a debt-heavy capital structure despite recent improvement. High leverage can constrain investment and shareholder distributions, while weakening profits would make interest, refinancing, and infrastructure funding more difficult to manage.
Uneven Revenue And Earnings GrowthRepeated revenue declines and lower apparent profit in 2026 indicate that the recovery has not yet become a consistent growth trend. Uneven top-line performance can limit operating leverage, reduce confidence in forward earnings capacity, and make long-term planning more dependent on market and tariff conditions.
Volatile Free Cash FlowRecent positive free cash flow is encouraging, but the sharp declines after 2024 and deeply negative 2023 results show unstable cash conversion. Such volatility can complicate funding for capital-intensive utility assets and may increase reliance on borrowing when operating conditions weaken.
