Q4 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q4 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 21, 2026|% Change Since:-18.29%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was strongly positive overall. Management reported record revenue growth, significant operating leverage, improved adjusted EBITDA, a larger contractual backlog, a growing qualified pipeline, low churn, expanding customer adoption, and multiple legislative and funding tailwinds. The principal challenges were lower year-over-year bookings, quarterly booking lumpiness, gross-margin pressure from the newer XtractOne Gateway, and timing uncertainty around enterprise approvals, mandates, and grants.

Company Guidance

For fiscal 27, management outlined 4 key operating priorities: continued sales expansion focused on 4 areas—Education, health care, commercial, and international; focused R&D; continuing to deliver on a highly scalable operating model by holding cost growth below revenue growth; and customers as advocates. Management said it aims to maintain the fiscal 26 pattern of operating expense growth of about 13% against revenue growth of 108%, continue to drive operating leverage into ongoing and sustained profitability, continue to invest in research and development and sales and marketing, and that there is nothing planned that requires a step change into a significantly higher OpEx cost. Management also said the XtractOne Gateway is expected to follow a similar path to Smart Gateway, with the margin gap between the 2 products expected over time to narrow, reducing volatility, and trending upwards.

  • Record Fiscal-Year Revenue GrowthFiscal 26 revenue reached a record $28.8 million, up 108% from $13.9 million in fiscal 25. Fourth-quarter revenue was $8.2 million, up 144% from $3.3 million in the prior-year period, primarily driven by the successful commercial rollout of the XtractOne Gateway and continued SmartGateway growth.
  • Improved Profitability and Operating LeverageAdjusted EBITDA improved by $5.1 million year over year to negative $3.5 million for fiscal 26, compared with negative $8.6 million in fiscal 25. Fourth-quarter adjusted EBITDA improved to negative $700 thousand from negative $2.7 million. Revenue increased by $14.9 million while operating expenses increased by only $2.8 million, with about 1/3 of every incremental revenue dollar reaching adjusted EBITDA. Net loss narrowed to $7 million from $11.9 million.
  • Controlled Operating Expense GrowthFiscal 26 operating expenses increased 13% to $24 million while revenue grew 108%. Selling and marketing increased 31% to $8.2 million as a deliberate investment in business development, general and administrative expenses increased 13% to $8.6 million, and research and development expenses were flat at $7 million.
  • Strong Contractual Backlog and Recurring Revenue BaseContractual backlog reached $25.6 million at year end, up 66% from $15.5 million a year earlier. Of this amount, $10.5 million is scheduled to be recognized in the next 12 months. The company also completed installation of a previously announced US$2.6 million SmartGateway expansion for a major international entertainment venue, providing quarterly recurring revenue over the next 3 years.
  • Faster Deployment ConversionAgreements pending installation ended the year at $18.4 million, down from $34 million a year earlier, as manufacturing improvements made in the first half accelerated deployments during the second half. For the first time, the value of installed systems under contract was larger than the value waiting to be installed.
  • Successful XtractOne Gateway Commercial RolloutThe XtractOne Gateway completed its first full year of commercial rollout, accounted for over a third of total fiscal 26 revenue, and represented roughly half of bookings. The product was deployed across a number of school districts and other schools across 5 states.
  • SmartGateway Customer Expansion and Notable WinsSmartGateway sales were led by healthcare and entertainment customers. Existing entertainment customers placed expansion orders, while a major international football club and the British Museum selected the SmartGateway. The British Museum selected the product for every entrance after extensive on-site testing.
  • Commercial and Manufacturing MomentumCommercial customers represented about 1/4 of fiscal 26 bookings. The company expanded into pharmaceutical manufacturing, commercial offices, insurance, healthcare, data center, technology, airline, and convention-center customers. A leading U.S. airline expanded deployment across 3 airports for employees, and a pharmaceutical manufacturing deployment spanned facilities in Arizona and Ohio with plans for additional global locations.
  • Large and Diversified Qualified PipelineThe qualified opportunity pipeline was approximately US$122 million. Management described these as engaged organizations with buying intent rather than merely leads, and said the pipeline was diversified across market segments with significant growth outside North America.
  • Low Customer Churn and Expansion PotentialManagement stated that industry-standard churn for comparable technology is approximately 8%, while XtractOne's churn is significantly lower. The company is seeing customers use both products, with SmartGateway customers adding the XtractOne Gateway, and views repeat and expanding customers as an important growth source.
  • Cash Position and Operating Cash Flow ImprovementCash and cash equivalents ended fiscal 26 at $17.3 million, up from $8.2 million a year earlier. Cash used in operating activities improved to $3.5 million from $6.5 million. The company generated approximately $1.9 million of operating cash flow in the fourth quarter, increased cash by $1.7 million from the prior quarter, and had no financing activity.
  • Near Operating Cash BreakevenExcluding working capital, fourth-quarter operating results were within $500 thousand of operating cash breakeven, following a third quarter that generated $700 thousand of cash on that basis. Management also characterized the second half of fiscal 26 as essentially adjusted EBITDA breakeven.
  • Legislative and Funding TailwindsManagement reported increased healthcare activity in California ahead of the mandated March 2027 weapon-screening requirement under Assembly Bill 75, increased interest in the UK related to pending Martyn's Law, and significant interest from Texas and other states following school safety incidents. Texas passed an approximately $430 million school-safety funding program, Pennsylvania had a couple of hundred million dollar application, and Georgia and Virginia were advancing school-safety or healthcare weapon-screening initiatives.
  • Competitive Screening PerformanceManagement reported alert rates ranging from as low as 4% to the mid teens depending on the environment. It also stated that the company replaced a competitive product at one school that required 8 staff members for secondary backpack searches, and described XtractOne as providing low false-alert rates and fast ingress.
  • Balanced Upfront and Subscription Business ModelsFiscal 26 bookings were approximately 70% upfront and 30% subscription. Upfront arrangements were more common in schools and commercial opportunities, while sports and entertainment customers tended to use subscriptions. Management said offering both models helps meet customer preferences and supports deal success.
  • International Expansion and Channel DevelopmentThe company is seeing international interest across Asia, Europe, and the UK, initially led by sports stadiums, arenas, and live entertainment, with increasing interest from offices, manufacturing, and healthcare. Channel partners are contributing domestic and international opportunities, with a high-quality group actively marketing and selling the solutions into installed customer bases.
  • Fiscal 27 Growth PrioritiesFiscal 27 priorities are continued sales expansion focused on education, healthcare, commercial, and international markets; focused research and development based on customer needs; maintaining operating expense growth below revenue growth; and increasing customer advocacy. Management said it will continue investing in research and development and focused selling and marketing without a planned step change to significantly higher operating expenses.
