Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
DGD Cash GenerationDiamond Green Diesel is currently a major earnings and cash contributor, with sharply higher EBITDA and substantial distributions to Darling. This strengthens internal funding capacity, supports debt reduction, and gives the company meaningful exposure to renewable fuels growth.
Specialty Ingredients GrowthExpansion in collagen, targeted ingredients, and glucose-control products can improve Darling's mix beyond commodity-linked feed inputs. These higher-value applications, broader end markets, and repeat sales provide a pathway toward more differentiated and potentially more durable profitability.
Deleveraging ProgressMeaningful debt reduction improves financial flexibility and lowers the burden that leverage can place on future cash flows. Reaching management's targeted leverage level would support continued investment, resilience through market cycles, and more disciplined capital allocation.
Bears Say
Renewable Fuel Policy RiskA significant portion of current earnings strength comes from renewable diesel, where policy decisions and RIN economics can materially affect margins. Persistent uncertainty around credits and regulation makes this profit stream less predictable across the next several quarters.
Cash Conversion PressurePositive cash generation is being reduced by weaker conversion of accounting earnings into operating cash and free cash flow. If this persists, Darling may have less capacity for debt repayment, acquisitions, buybacks, or investment than reported profitability would suggest.
Earnings VolatilityThe sharp swing in profitability shows that Darling's earnings remain sensitive to market conditions, commodity-linked pricing, and operating factors. Such variability makes sustained margins harder to underwrite and can complicate long-term planning and capital allocation.

DAR Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call highlighted substantial operational and financial improvement driven by strong DGD performance, higher fat and protein markets, and effective commercial and margin management across the core ingredients and food segments. Management achieved material earnings and cash generation, used DGD distributions to reduce debt, completed accretive M&A, and provided confident near-term guidance. Noted challenges include working capital buildup at DGD, near-term cash uses that limited immediate deleveraging, some remaining tariff recovery uncertainty, and ongoing policy/RIN volatility. On balance, the positive operational and financial momentum and clear path to below-$3B net debt and sub-2x leverage outweigh the headwinds.View all DAR earnings summariesDAR Stock 12 Month Forecast
