Carbon Energy Corporation operates as an independent enterprise focused on oil and natural gas. Its core business activities involve the acquisition, exploration, development, and eventual production of crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids (NGLs) assets throughout the United States. The company's strategic emphasis is on both conventional and unconventional reservoir formations, including resources like shale, tight sand, and coalbed methane, primarily located within the Appalachian, Illinois, and Ventura Basins. As of December 31, 2018, Carbon Energy's portfolio was substantial. It held working interests in 7,100 net wells and royalty interests in approximately 900 wells, which were distributed across several states including California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Furthermore, the corporation maintained significant leasehold positions, encompassing roughly 340,700 net developed acres and an additional 1,319,200 net undeveloped acres. The organization, originally established as Carbon Natural Gas Company, officially changed its name to Carbon Energy Corporation in June 2018. Founded in 2007, its corporate headquarters are situated in Denver, Colorado.
