Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Nov 03, 2026|% Change Since:0.93%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was predominantly positive. AIS reported resilient revenue and earnings growth, exceeded guidance across key financial metrics, expects full-year core service revenue near the upper end of guidance and EBITDA above guidance, and highlighted strong mobile data, broadband, retail, network and strategic investment initiatives. The main cautions were seasonal and economic pressure, flat mobile revenue quarter-on-quarter, lower prepaid subscribers and postpaid ARPU, eSIM-related roaming effects, upcoming refinancing needs, and uncertainty around GridBank losses and future spectrum availability.

Company Guidance

Management said full year performance should be both crossing around the upper end of the guidance for core service revenue and EBITDA would exceed the guidance, with CapEx investment remaining on track. Going forward, SG&A is expected to be around 9% of the total revenue. Management is still looking for growth in 2027 across mobile, broadband, enterprise, new products and services, while the guideline for next year will come later in the year once the business plan is finalized; the fourth quarter is expected to maintain strong momentum and continued growth in handset sales, and fourth quarter overall IT spending is expected to be higher than third Q, with the trend still continuing next year. The Lao Telecom transaction is currently expected to be completed within this year.

  • Reliable Connectivity for World Bank Annual MeetingsIn collaboration with the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center and a partner, AIS provided reliable and stable digital infrastructure for the World Bank Annual Meetings in Thailand, serving more than 10,000 international guests and participants.
  • Network Resilience InvestmentsAIS continued strengthening network resilience, particularly for the rainy season, with a priority on network availability and service continuity during periods of crisis.
  • Resilient Mobile and Fixed Broadband DemandMobile data usage continued to grow at a mid-teen level, supporting further 5G adoption, upselling and cross-selling of value-added services. Fixed broadband subscriber growth remained strong despite the rainy season, while ARPU improved year-on-year through quality subscriber expansion and value-enhancing offerings such as the PLAY ASIAN premium content package.
  • Enterprise Growth and Managed Services StrategyAlthough enterprise revenue was affected by an adjustment in cloud revenue recognition to better reflect the recurring service model, enterprise revenue otherwise continued to grow both year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter, driven by demand for cloud and connectivity services. AIS is focusing going forward on managed services for cloud and other enterprise solutions.
  • Strong Retail Demand and Customer Experience InitiativesRetail growth was supported by strong demand for premium smartphones following new model launches, alongside ongoing efforts to improve customer experience across offline and online channels.
  • Results Exceeded GuidanceAIS maintained earnings growth despite higher expenses from ongoing investment and stated that results exceeded guidance across all key financial metrics. For the full year, core service revenue is expected to be around the upper end of guidance, while EBITDA is expected to exceed guidance.
  • Improved Profitability and Financial ManagementAIS reported improving EBITDA and NPAT margins, higher ROIC and a lower cost of funds, reflecting continued focus on prudent financial management.
  • CapEx Remains on TrackCapital investment remained on track and focused on strengthening network infrastructure to support growing demand for connectivity and digital services while further enhancing customer experiences.
  • Strategic Investment in Lao TelecomAIS is expanding into Laos through the acquisition of a 49% stake in Shenington, which owns 49% of Lao Telecom, a leading telecom provider in Laos. The investment is intended to support a regional connectivity hub linking Thailand with markets including Vietnam and China, while Laos remains underpenetrated in subscriber penetration and digital adoption. Completion is currently expected within the year.

  • Strong Fourth-Quarter Smartphone DemandManagement expects strong fourth-quarter momentum from new iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 launches, continued Samsung demand, store openings and renovations. Some models were selling faster than AIS could restock.
  • Unit Market Share Gains and Broader DistributionManagement said AIS gained smartphone unit market share through expanded, modernized and nationwide distribution, including partnerships. Apple unit sales grew 7% quarter-on-quarter and Samsung unit sales grew 31% quarter-on-quarter.
  • Additional Device Portfolio ExpansionAIS launched new Oppo and Vivo models and planned to begin selling Tecno, a budget brand, in its system the following week to support fourth-quarter unit and revenue growth.
  • Network Capacity Investment for Rising TrafficOverall network traffic consumption increased approximately 14% to 16% during the year, requiring CapEx to support capacity and maintain a high-quality customer network. AIS said it would evaluate additional spectrum and CapEx based on pricing, conditions and its overall spectrum portfolio.
  • Initial Progress at GridBankGridBank's initial performance was described as proceeding according to plan, with evidence that it can raise deposits based on customer trust in the bank and brand and conduct lending using alternative data and credit scoring. GridBank had not yet contributed a significant negative result to AIS's P&L.
  • Satellite Connectivity Viewed as ComplementaryManagement said direct-to-device satellite connectivity is expected to complement, rather than cannibalize, terrestrial mobile networks, particularly in locations such as the middle of the sea or jungle. AIS reported mobile coverage above 98.4% and fiber-to-home coverage exceeding 20 million household passes.
  • Ongoing IT Modernization and AI ReadinessAIS is progressively modernizing on-premise and local software, adopting cloud-based subscription platforms, enabling AI capabilities and integrating and migrating the 3BB system. Management said the company is accepting higher near-term IT spending to build a more agile and AI-ready platform that can support future revenue opportunities.
  • Debt Refinancing FlexibilityManagement said it uses a mix of short- and long-term funding and can adjust maturities, including short-term, one-, three-, five-, seven- and ten-year structures, to secure funding without materially increasing financing costs. The company also stated that its cost of funds had declined.
  • Roaming and eSIM Product ResponsesAIS is responding to eSIM-related roaming changes through products including Easy to Fly for outbound customers and additional lifestyle privileges and flexible day-and-data options for inbound and outbound roaming users.
