Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Order Book & Tender PipelineA $5.1bn order book and a $25.6bn tender pipeline provide multi-year revenue visibility and selective bidding power, allowing the company to allocate fleet and crews efficiently and smooth revenue across cycles. This structural backlog underpins durable top-line stability and strategic capacity planning.
Strong Cash Generation & Improved LeverageHigh operating cash conversion and reduced net debt demonstrate sustainable cash generation and enhanced balance sheet flexibility. Robust liquidity and lower leverage support funding of capex, dividends and selective growth without over-reliance on external financing, improving resilience across commodity cycles.
Diversification Into Higher-ROACE ServicesShifting mix toward civil infrastructure and underground services is lifting capital efficiency and returns. Civil growth and explicit targets for Underground and Civil increase exposure to higher-ROACE, less cyclical contract types, supporting sustainable margin expansion and long-term profitability improvement.
Bears Say
Workplace Fatality & InvestigationAn ongoing fatality investigation creates material operational and reputational risk that can affect licences, insurance costs, contract awards and client confidence. Persisting safety concerns may increase compliance costs, slow mobilisations, and weigh on long-term tender competitiveness and employee retention.
Elevated Capital Expenditure ProfileSustained high capex needs to support growth and fleet renewal place structural pressure on free cash flow and require disciplined execution. Elevated investment increases the need for reliable contract conversion and cash generation; delays or cost overruns could compress returns and limit financial flexibility.
Competitive Civil Tendering & Modest MarginsLow win rates and modest civil margins imply structural conversion risk from a large pipeline to profitable contracts. Persistent competitiveness constrains pricing power and increases bid-related resource deployment; combined with working-capital variability, this can create recurring earnings and cash-flow volatility.
