Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call emphasized significant technical and commercial progress, including meeting the gate-all-around engagement target, expanding into DRAM and NAND, advancing analog, power and RF programs, and establishing an IQE manufacturing relationship for GaN-on-silicon. However, Atomera generated no revenue in the quarter, continued to report losses, faces higher year-over-year costs and limited revenue and production visibility, and expects higher Q4 cash use. The breadth of the pipeline and stated milestone progress outweighed the financial and execution uncertainties.
Atomera expects to recognize revenue for wafer deliveries this quarter of approximately $50,000, and still expects 2026 non-GAAP operating expense to be approximately $18.5 million for the year, plus or minus $250,000, with the expectation at the high end of that range; operating cash used will step up this quarter, primarily because of a roughly $1.4 million onetime payment made on October 1 that prepays the lease for the company’s 200-millimeter tool for all of 2027, while it is too early to give guidance on 2027 expenses.
- Gate-All-Around Engagement Target AchievedAtomera met its February objective by becoming actively engaged with 3 of the 4 companies developing gate-all-around technology and remaining in active dialogue with the fourth. Two customers are running development demonstrations on their silicon, while a third is in the early evaluation stage.
- Progress on Gate-All-Around Customer MilestonesThe company said it has been meeting the milestones set by its first two gate-all-around customers, including physical deposition, film uniformity, process survivability, dopant diffusion blocking and electrical testing requirements. Atomera said no customer has discontinued an engagement because of performance issues.
- Memory Opportunity Expanded Across DRAM and NANDAtomera broadened its memory reach to both next-generation DRAM and NAND flash. The company said recent visits with leading memory manufacturers confirmed interest in its solutions, although the engagements remain early.
- 4F Squared DRAM Approach Targets Smaller Cells and Fewer Process StepsAtomera presented a peer-reviewed paper on using MST-enabled vertical transistors for 4F squared DRAM. The approach is intended to shrink cell area by about 1/3 without changing lithography, while meeting drive-current and leakage targets and removing costly process steps.
- NAND Solution Addresses Die-Size MismatchFor 3D NAND, Atomera said MST can enable shorter gate lengths so the CMOS wafer and memory array die can be sized to match, addressing the size mismatch created as NAND layer counts and associated logic requirements increase. The engagements are early but include real silicon data.
- Large Analog and Power Program Tracking to PlanAtomera's large ongoing program with a major analog and power manufacturer is tracking to plan. The two engineering teams are conducting wafer runs with the objective of including MST in the customer's next device node, and management said progress is good with the customer giving the program its full attention.
- Power and RF-SOI Customer Pipeline AdvancingSeveral new power and RF-SOI customers are moving forward, with MST being evaluated for devices including trench and HPT applications where efficiency and high-frequency behavior are important. Atomera also said its high-throughput RF-SOI process effort and substrate supply-chain work continue to advance.
- RF-SOI Technical Solution Described as ProvenManagement said its RF-SOI technical solution is well proven through work with a number of customers. The company is working to increase deposition throughput, including evaluating atmospheric tools that could manufacture wafers at much higher volume than its current R&D process.
- GaN-on-Silicon Market Opportunity and Performance BreakthroughAtomera said the RF GaN market is approximately $1.2 billion today and is compounding at double digits toward roughly $2 billion within a few years. Its MST-enabled GaN-on-silicon technology is intended to approach advanced RF-SOI performance on loss and linearity while using lower-cost silicon wafers rather than costly specialty substrates.
- IQE Joint Development Agreement Creates Manufacturing PathAtomera entered a joint development agreement with IQE to optimize GaN epitaxy grown on MST silicon substrates for low-cost, high-performance RF GaN-on-silicon wafers. The agreement covers RF and power GaN, has already begun, and is intended to provide a high-volume production path and accelerate the delivery of sample wafers to foundries, IDMs and fabless designers.
- Prima Starting-Wafer Portfolio ExpandedAtomera introduced the Prima brand for blanket-deposited starting-wafer products, while its selective MST integration offering is now branded Selecta. Starting-wafer applications increased from 2 a year ago to 6, including RF-SOI, GaN-on-silicon and memory applications.
- Prima Products May Reach Production FasterManagement said Prima products have a good chance of moving faster because customers can evaluate and adopt starting wafers more easily. As an example, if the GaN solution with IQE is tuned up well in the next 6 months, IQE could potentially complete a couple of months of qualification and begin shipping wafers for revenue.
- Strategic Equipment Partnership Continues to Support Customer WorkAtomera said its equipment partnership has been going well and helped demonstrate MST on customer-relevant vehicles. Standard tools can be configured for MST using different gas inputs and software, and the strategic partner has the know-how to integrate MST into equipment modules if needed.
- STMicroelectronics Engagement Remains ActiveAtomera said it remains engaged with STMicroelectronics, that the relationship is good, and that STMicroelectronics has responded positively to what it has seen. Management said it expects the companies will eventually do a deal, although no deal has been announced.
- Sequential Expense Reduction and Lower Operating Cash UseGAAP operating expenses were $6.3 million in Q3, down approximately $563,000 from $6.9 million in Q2. Non-GAAP operating expenses were $4.6 million, down $572,000 sequentially, while operating cash use improved to $3.2 million from $3.9 million in Q2.
- No ATM Share Sales for Second Consecutive QuarterAtomera did not sell any shares under its ATM facility during Q3, marking the second consecutive quarter with no ATM sales. The company had 39.1 million shares outstanding as of September 30, 2026.
