Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
The call was predominantly positive, supported by 15% year-over-year silver production growth, advancing La Preciosa development, encouraging exploration results, strong cash generation, substantial liquidity, and a clear long-term expansion strategy. The principal challenges were La Preciosa's development costs being more than 30% above budget, grades remaining below plan, foreign-exchange and industry cost pressures, and revised full-year production and cost guidance. Management remained confident in the transition toward higher-grade production mining and future growth opportunities.
Avino revised full-year production guidance to 2.2-2.5 million ounces of silver equivalent, with cash costs and all-in sustaining costs per ounce revised to a midpoint of $23 and $31 per ounce respectively, and all-in sustaining cost per ton revised to a midpoint of $90 per ton; cash cost guidance is unchanged for the full year. The company intends to complete 15,000 meters of planned drilling at La Preciosa and 15,000 meters of planned drilling at the Avino mine, continue La Preciosa development toward production mining at the La Gloria and Abundancia veins, and achieve a target mining rate of 500 tons per day. For 2027, the expectation is around 200 grams a ton silver and 0.35 or so gold at La Preciosa, while the longer-term objective is more than 10 million silver equivalent ounces of annual production.
- Higher Silver Production and Solid Quarterly OutputThird-quarter production totaled 303,000 silver ounces, just under 2,000 ounces of gold, 1.1 million pounds of copper, and 583,000 silver equivalent ounces from approximately 190,000 tons of mill feed. Silver production increased 15% year over year, reflecting steady operational performance and increased contributions from La Preciosa.
- La Preciosa Development Continued to AdvanceMining and processing rates at La Preciosa exceeded 450 tons per day during the quarter, with more than 3,000 meters of underground development completed. Level 3 mine preparation is nearing completion, positioning the company to begin long-hole production mining at the La Gloria and Abundancia veins. Management expects the transition to provide access to higher-grade material than the development ore processed to date.
- Increased La Preciosa ContributionLa Preciosa development production increased 5% compared with the second quarter and contributed approximately 106,000 silver equivalent ounces, consisting of 91,000 silver ounces and 166 gold ounces. Earlier-than-planned availability of mill circuit number 2 supported increased processing of La Preciosa material.
- Additional Processing Capacity Supported GrowthMill circuits one and two processed La Preciosa development ore for the second consecutive quarter, following the earlier-than-planned availability of circuit number 2 in the second quarter. The additional capacity supported increased contributions from La Preciosa and allowed year-to-date processing of mineralized development material to exceed plan.
- Encouraging La Preciosa Exploration ResultsRecent infill drilling results at La Preciosa provided further evidence that the La Gloria and Abundancia vein structures may be wider and contain higher grades than previously interpreted in certain areas. Management stated that the stopes are both wider and higher grade than reflected in the current mineral reserve and mineral resource estimates, and that most recent drilling has not yet been incorporated into those estimates.
- La Preciosa Exploration Program on TrackAvino added a third drill at La Preciosa during the quarter and remains on track to complete its 15,000-meter exploration program by year-end. The program has progressed from infill drilling toward exploration and step-out drilling targeting high-priority vein intersections and projections.
- Continued Exploration at the Avino MineTwo drills continued operating at the Avino Mine, targeting the upper eastern portion of the mineralized system and extension targets within the footwall breccia zone. The company remains on track to complete 15,000 meters of planned drilling at the Avino Mine.
- Avino Mine Cost and Operating ImprovementsAvino's cost per ton decreased in the third quarter compared with the second quarter. Cash cost per ton was $59.60 at Avino, while all-in sustaining cost was just under $80 per ton. Management said Avino's cash cost per ton was below its midpoint and its all-in sustaining cost per ton was within guidance.
- Revenue, Profitability, and Cash Flow GenerationThird-quarter revenue was $33.4 million, with 55% generated from silver ounces sold at an average realized price of $63.33 per silver ounce. Net income was $6.1 million, or $0.03 per diluted share, while adjusted earnings were $14.3 million, or $0.08 per share. Operating cash flow was $12.7 million, up 52% from the third quarter of the prior year, and free cash flow was $6 million excluding La Preciosa exploration and development costs.
- Strong Liquidity and Royalty SettlementCash was $138 million and working capital was $142 million at quarter-end. These balances were reported after the company made the final $8.75 million payment to extinguish royalties originally issued as part of the La Preciosa acquisition.
- Improved Consolidated Cost PerformanceConsolidated cash cost per ton was $71.40 for the quarter, within full-year consolidated cost guidance. Management stated that Avino's ongoing free cash flow generation is more than covering development costs at La Preciosa.
- Recognition on the TSX 30Avino was named to the 2026 TSX 30 for the second consecutive year and ranked fifth among top-performing TSX companies based on dividend-adjusted share price appreciation over the three years ended June 30, 2026. Its share price increased approximately 958% over that period, representing approximately $1 billion in market capitalization growth.
- Potential Improvement in Future Grades and RecoveriesManagement expects higher grades at La Preciosa as development mining transitions to production mining, with more contribution expected to come from grade rather than increased tons. Recoveries are also expected to improve as grades increase, mechanical improvements are implemented, equipment is commissioned—hopefully in the first quarter of next year—and metallurgical work on reagents continues.
- Strong Operating Infrastructure and Growth PlatformAvino's three key assets are located within approximately 20 kilometers of one another, including an operating mill complex that processes material from both Avino and La Preciosa. Existing water, power, and tailings infrastructure provides a foundation for evaluating production expansion.
- Long-Term Production Growth StrategyManagement's longer-term objective is to reach more than 10 million silver equivalent ounces of annual production. The two principal growth opportunities identified were advancing and scaling La Preciosa, including evaluating a potential standalone processing facility, and assessing expansion opportunities at the existing Avino processing plant.
- Employment and Community SupportOperations are supported by more than 700 employees and contractors, including approximately 580 at the Avino Mine and an additional 127 supporting La Preciosa development. The company stated that it continues to support the local economy through employment, workforce training, local procurement, and community initiatives.
