Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Nov 03, 2026|% Change Since:-16.43%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was strongly positive, led by record revenue and earnings, 97% data center growth, expanding EPYC and Instinct adoption, major Helios and Venice ramps, accelerating Embedded growth, and raised expectations for more than 80% company revenue growth in 2027. The primary challenges were supply constraints, higher memory and component costs, a projected double-digit PC market decline, a 40% gaming revenue decline, working capital investment, and warrant-related noncash charges. Highlights significantly outweighed the lowlights.

Company Guidance

For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, AMD expects revenue to be approximately $17 billion, plus or minus 3%, representing approximately 66% year-over-year revenue growth and approximately 27% sequential growth, with data center growth of approximately 50%, a decline in our client and the gaming segment of greater than 20% and double-digit growth in Embedded; non-GAAP gross margin is expected to be approximately 55%, non-GAAP operating expenses approximately $3.75 billion, non-GAAP net interest and other expense a gain of approximately $4 million, the non-GAAP effective tax rate 13% and diluted share count approximately 1.67 billion shares. For 2027, AMD expects revenue to grow more than 80%, data center segment revenue to more than double from 2025 and exceed 80% of total revenue, server revenue to double year-over-year, data center AI revenue to grow even faster than we projected 90 days ago and significantly more than double, PC market unit shipments to decline by a double-digit percentage, embedded revenue to deliver strong double-digit annual revenue growth, and OpEx to grow less than half of the top line revenue growth rate.

  • Record Third-Quarter Revenue and EarningsAMD reported its largest and most profitable quarter in history. Revenue increased 45% year-over-year to a record $13.4 billion, while non-GAAP diluted earnings per share increased 74% to $2.09. Revenue also increased 16% sequentially.
  • Strong Gross Margin and Operating LeverageNon-GAAP gross margin was 56%, up 190 basis points year-over-year, reflecting a richer product mix. Operating income grew 75% year-over-year to a record $3.9 billion, and operating margin expanded by more than 5 percentage points year-over-year to 29%.
  • Data Center Revenue Nearly DoubledData center revenue grew 97% year-over-year to a record $8.5 billion and increased 27% sequentially. The segment contributed approximately 64% of total company revenue in the third quarter, up from 47% one year ago and 58% in the prior quarter.
  • Data Center Operating PerformanceData center operating income increased 168% year-over-year to $2.9 billion, while operating margin expanded to 34% from 25% a year ago.
  • Server CPU Share Gains and EPYC AdoptionCloud and enterprise server sales more than doubled year-over-year, exceeding AMD's previous outlook for more than 80% growth. Turin became the most widely deployed EPYC generation in the public cloud, with more than 540 instance types available globally. OpenAI also selected Turin EPYC processors as host CPUs for its first custom accelerator platforms.
  • Venice and Helion Ramp ProgressAMD began revenue shipments of EPYC Venice processors in the third quarter, with the first OEM systems on track for availability this quarter. OEM and ODM partners have committed more than 240 Venice platforms, 20% more than Turin, while cloud providers are deploying Venice ahead of planned early-2027 instance rollouts. Helion, AMD's Venice reference design for turnkey rack-scale systems, is planned by every major server OEM and ODM, with the first system shipping this quarter.
  • Agentic Workload MomentumCloud providers added significant EPYC capacity for personal and enterprise agents, which AMD described as a growing source of CPU demand. More than 10 million people activated Meta's Muse agents in the first six weeks, and enterprises are deploying agents across software development, supply chain and IT operations.
  • Instinct and Helios Deployment GrowthFrontier labs, hyperscalers and cloud providers expanded Instinct deployments for inference and training, driving record data center AI revenue. AMD started shipping MI455X in volume, and lead customers including Anthropic, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and Oracle brought their first Helios racks online. Helios deployments are expected to increase substantially in the fourth quarter as production ramps and OEM and ODM partners begin shipping systems.
  • Data Center AI Performance and Design WinsAMD stated that MI455X leads in compute flops, memory capacity and scale-out bandwidth, while Helios provides a larger lead in memory bandwidth and higher scale-up bandwidth than the competition. EuroHPC selected Instinct MI430X GPUs and sixth-generation EPYC processors for LUMI-AI, Europe's next flagship supercomputer planned to come online in the second half of 2027. AMD said MI430X delivers nearly 9x the double-precision performance of the competition.
  • ROCm 10 Software EnhancementsAMD launched ROCm 10 with faster startup across large GPU clusters, greater resilience for long-running workloads and agentic performance tuning through ROCm.AI. The company said ROCm.AI can profile workloads, identify bottlenecks, and apply and validate improvements, reducing engineering optimization work from weeks to hours.
  • Strategic Super Intelligence AcquisitionsAMD announced acquisitions of Taalas and World Labs to strengthen its super intelligence portfolio. Taalas brings specialized silicon and an experienced engineering team for low-latency inference, while World Labs brings expertise in spatial intelligence and physical-world models. Both acquisitions are expected to close by the end of the year, and World Labs co-founder Dr. Fei-Fei Li will join AMD as Chief Scientist.
  • Client Revenue Growth and Commercial ExpansionClient revenue increased 7% year-over-year to $2.9 billion, driven by strong Ryzen mobile processor sales. Eight of the 10 largest banks globally and seven of the 10 largest healthcare and automotive companies now use Ryzen PRO PCs. AMD also launched Ryzen AI Max PRO 400 series systems capable of running super intelligence models with up to 300 billion parameters locally.
  • Embedded Segment AccelerationEmbedded revenue increased 29% year-over-year to $1.1 billion and 14% sequentially, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of accelerating growth. Demand was strong across aerospace and defense, automotive, communications and industrial markets. Embedded operating income increased to $453 million, or 41% of revenue, from $283 million, or 33% of revenue, a year ago.
  • Record Embedded Design WinsAMD remains on track to close more than $18 billion of design wins in 2026, its third consecutive record year. The company said adaptive design wins have increased every year since the Xilinx acquisition, with embedded x86 and semi-custom wins growing even faster.
  • Fourth-Quarter Revenue OutlookAMD expects fourth-quarter revenue of approximately $17 billion, plus or minus 3%. The midpoint represents approximately 66% year-over-year growth and approximately 27% sequential growth, driven by about 50% sequential growth in data center revenue and double-digit growth in Embedded.
  • Raised 2027 Growth ExpectationsAMD now expects company revenue to grow more than 80% in 2027, more than twice the long-term financial model outlined at its prior Financial Analyst Day. The company expects server revenue to double year-over-year, data center AI revenue to grow even faster than previously projected, and data center revenue to exceed 80% of total company revenue.
  • Expected 2027 Operating LeverageManagement expects operating expenses to grow less than half the top-line revenue growth rate in 2027. The company stated that this should drive significant operating margin and profitability expansion, while continued investments in silicon, software, systems, supply chain and capacity support growth over the next three to five years.
  • Supply Chain and Capacity PlanningAMD said it has secured wafers, substrates, advanced packaging, memory and other components to support higher growth in 2027. The company is continuing to work with supply chain partners, invest alongside them and selectively invest with lead customers to secure long-term capacity and data center infrastructure.
  • Strong Balance Sheet and Strategic InvestmentAMD ended the quarter with $15.8 billion in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments and $7.1 billion in total debt, including a $4.75 billion senior notes offering completed in August. Management emphasized that it is investing in R&D, supply chain, capacity and customer infrastructure to support growth.
