Bulls Say
Recurring Lease & Operations ModelSBM's core model combines turnkey delivery with long-term FPSO leases and operations, creating durable, multi-year cash streams once units are on hire. This recurring revenue reduces cyclicality versus pure EPC work and supports predictable service margins and lifecycle aftermarket work.
Margin And Profitability Rebound (2025)The substantial margin recovery in 2025 demonstrates meaningful operating leverage when project mix and execution align. Higher gross and net margins indicate improved project pricing, cost control, and better utilization of installed assets, supporting sustainable cash generation if management preserves discipline.
Revenue Growth And ROE ImprovementDouble-digit revenue growth alongside a sharp ROE rebound implies improved capital efficiency and stronger returns on invested equity. For an asset-heavy FPSO business, rising top-line and higher ROE signal better project economics and an improving ability to translate contracts into profitable, shareholder-returning outcomes.
Bears Say
High LeverageAn elevated debt-to-equity ratio near 2.1x reflects persistent leverage in an asset-heavy business. High leverage reduces financial flexibility, heightens refinancing and interest-rate risks, and can constrain the company's ability to fund newbuilds or weather project delays without dilutive or costly financing.
Volatile Cash GenerationWhile FCF turned positive recently, large year-over-year swings and very low operating cash coverage of debt indicate cash conversion lags earnings. This volatility limits capacity to deleverage, fund capex or absorb cost overruns, making balance sheet resilience sensitive to timing of receipts and working-capital needs.
Earnings Sensitivity To Project Mix/executionSBM's results are materially affected by project timing, scope and execution; similar revenues produced very different margins year-to-year. This inherent project risk creates earnings unpredictability for investors and management, and means structural improvements depend on consistent project delivery and contract terms.
