Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Long-dated Contracted BacklogA multi‑billion firm backlog with average remaining firm charter duration of ~6.5 years (9.4 including options) provides durable cash‑flow visibility, insulating near‑term revenue from spot volatility and supporting multi‑year charter coverage and planning.
High Operating ProfitabilityConsistently elevated gross and operating margins reflect structural pricing power from specialized LNG/LPG fleet and favorable tonne‑mile dynamics. High unit economics enhance long‑term earnings potential and provide margin buffer through shipping cycles.
Active Debt & Interest‑rate Risk ManagementUse of collars, bond refinancing and extending maturities shows proactive financial management. With ~50% of debt fixed/protected and demonstrated access to capital markets, management reduces refinancing and rate risk, aiding balance sheet stability across cycles.
Bears Say
High LeverageMaterial leverage (net leverage ~mid‑50s) increases sensitivity to rate moves and cyclical downturns, limiting financial flexibility. Elevated debt levels can amplify earnings volatility and constrain ability to self‑fund newbuilds or absorb prolonged weak charter markets.
Weak Free Cash Flow / Heavy CapexFrequent negative FCF driven by heavy newbuilding capex undermines internal deleveraging and limits organic liquidity. Persistent capex needs mean reliance on external financing, pressuring cash returns and raising execution risk if market or funding conditions tighten.
Uncontracted Newbuild ExposureUndeployed newbuilds create timing and chartering risk: vessels delivered without long‑term contracts may face weaker spot markets or off‑hire, eroding near‑term utilization and cash returns and increasing the chance of opportunistic, lower‑rate fixtures.

N1M Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call conveyed multiple operational and financial positives: meaningful fleet growth and deliveries, a revenue increase (~+8.5%), maintenance of the quarterly dividend, a strong contracted backlog (~$2.8–$2.9B firm, ~$4.1–$4.3B including options), active interest‑rate protection ($800M collars) and favorable market dynamics (large increase in spot charter rates and U.S. export growth). The main negatives were modest: a small YoY decline in net income (~2.4%), higher vessel operating costs (including ~$3.5M of special survey costs), short‑term leverage sensitivity (~54% net leverage) and a handful of uncontracted newbuild LNG positions that create timing/charter risk. Overall, the highlights materially outweigh the lowlights, with strong forward revenue visibility and risk mitigation measures in place.View all DE:N1M earnings summariesN1M Stock 12 Month Forecast
