Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Fully Regulated FocusPortfolio simplification concentrates Spire on regulated utility operations, which management says should reduce earnings volatility and improve predictability. A clearer business model can support more consistent cash flows, regulatory execution, and capital allocation over the next several quarters.
Long-term Capital GrowthThe sizable capital program provides a durable avenue for expanding the regulated rate base and future earnings capacity. Planned investment and projected rate-base growth across several jurisdictions support multi-year revenue visibility when spending is recovered through approved customer rates.
Improving Utility EarningsImprovement in the core Gas Utilities segment indicates that rate changes, infrastructure surcharges, and operating trends are beginning to support results. Better segment performance strengthens the earnings base and partially offsets higher depreciation, taxes, and interest costs.
Bears Say
High Leverage And Weak Cash ConversionElevated leverage reduces financial flexibility while recurring negative free cash flow indicates that reported earnings are not consistently covering capital needs. Together, these pressures can increase reliance on debt financing and constrain investment or shareholder-return choices.
Continuing-operations LossesThe continuing utility platform has not yet converted its improved segment results into positive quarterly adjusted earnings. Ongoing corporate and interest costs weigh on profitability, making execution and cost control important to delivering the reaffirmed multi-year earnings targets.
Regulatory And Weather Recovery UncertaintyUnresolved weather-related usage effects create uncertainty around the timing and amount of margin recovery in Missouri. Because the issue is tied to a future rate case, regulatory outcomes could affect near-term earnings visibility and the pace at which investment translates into allowed returns.

LGR Earnings Call
Q3 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call conveyed meaningful strategic progress: Spire completed the shift to a fully regulated business, reaffirmed guidance, articulated a sizable capital plan and reported strong one-time gains from divestitures while showing operational improvement in the gas utilities segment. However, continuing operations remain in a modest loss, corporate costs and interest expense increased, weather-driven revenue variability in Missouri remains unresolved, and credit metrics are in transition. On balance, the positives — transformation to a regulated model, reaffirmed multi-year guidance, capital and financing plans, and regulatory milestones — outweigh the near-term operational and cost headwinds.View all DE:LGR earnings summariesLGR Stock 12 Month Forecast
