Ion Beam Applications S.A. (IBA) specializes in the creation, production, and maintenance of advanced medical equipment and software systems designed to combat cancer, operating across Belgium, the United States, and numerous other countries. Its operations are structured into two key divisions: Proton Therapy and Other Accelerators, and Dosimetry. The Proton Therapy and Other Accelerators segment is dedicated to the engineering, manufacturing, and upkeep of both clinical and industrial particle accelerators, including cutting-edge proton therapy apparatus. This division also furnishes comprehensive, ready-to-use systems for treating cancer with proton beams, a range of cyclotrons crucial for generating radioisotopes for PET and SPECT imaging, as well as industrial accelerators employed in sterilization and ionization processes. The Dosimetry segment offers instruments and expertise aimed at improving the precision and reducing errors in radiation therapy, medical imaging quality assurance, and calibration. IBA maintains a crucial research and development alliance with the Belgian nuclear research center, SCK CEN, to facilitate the development of Actinium-225 (225Ac), an innovative radioisotope with potential in cancer therapy, and collaborates with the University of Pennsylvania on pioneering research into ConformalFLASH technology. Established in 1986, the company's headquarters are located in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.
