Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong Cash Runway And Nondilutive FundingA multi-year cash runway into 2029 materially reduces near-term financing risk for a clinical-stage biotech, allowing Compugen to advance trials and discovery without immediate dilution. The nondilutive $65M AstraZeneca contribution and prior partner payments bolster liquidity and strategic optionality.
High-value Partnership Milestones And Royalty PotentialLarge pharmaceutical partnerships provide validation, non-dilutive funding and substantial contingent upside via milestones and royalties. These deals both finance development and create potential material cash inflection points that can support long-term growth without requiring direct commercialization by Compugen.
AI-driven Unigen Discovery PlatformA proprietary computational discovery engine is a durable competitive asset: it can accelerate target identification, lower early R&D costs, and continually feed novel programs. Platform-driven discovery supports long-term pipeline replenishment and enhances the company’s licensing and collaboration leverage.
Bears Say
Revenue Reliance On Lumpy Collaboration/milestone RecognitionThe sharp 2025 revenue/profit inflection reflects milestone timing, not recurring product sales. Reliance on one-off or uneven partner payments makes revenues and cash generation unpredictable quarter-to-quarter, complicating planning and increasing the risk that positive 2025 metrics are not repeatable.
Ongoing Net Losses And Rising R&D SpendContinued investment in clinical programs is expanding operating losses in the near term. Higher R&D and associated clinical costs, while constructive for pipeline progress, sustain cash outflows and mean future funding or partner milestones will be required to maintain runway if milestone receipts slow.
Clinical And Execution Risk Around MAIA-ovarian TrialThe MAIA-ovarian interim readout is event-driven and carries binary outcome risk; trial enrollment visibility is limited. Success is needed to support a registration path and materially de-risk COM701, so trial timing, accrual and outcome uncertainty are structural execution risks for near-to-medium term value realization.

Company Description
Compugen
Compugen Ltd., an Israeli-based company established in 1993 and headquartered in Holon, is a clinical-stage enterprise focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of therapeutic and product candidates. Its operations extend across Israel, the United States, and Europe. The company’s core activities center around its immuno-oncology pipeline, which includes several investigational treatments: COM701, an anti-PVRIG antibody currently undergoing Phase I clinical studies for solid tumors. COM902, a therapeutic antibody designed to target TIGIT, which is also in Phase I clinical trials as a monotherapy for advanced malignancies. Bapotulimab, an antibody targeting ILDR2, presently in Phase I clinical development for solid tumor indications. AZD2936, an innovative bispecific antibody targeting both TIGIT and PD-1, advancing through Phase I/II clinical studies for patients with advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. Additionally, Compugen maintains earlier-stage immuno-oncology programs, with a particular emphasis on myeloid targets. To further its research and development, Compugen actively fosters strategic alliances. It has a collaboration agreement with Bayer Pharma AG for the research, development, and commercialization of antibody-based therapeutics that modulate immune checkpoint regulators. Another key partnership is with Bristol-Myers Squibb, aimed at evaluating the safety and tolerability of COM701 when administered alongside Bristol-Myers Squibb's PD-1 immune checkpoint inhibitor, Opdivo, in patients with advanced solid tumors. The company also collaborates with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine to investigate novel T cell and myeloid checkpoint targets, and has a distinct research collaboration with Johns Hopkins University specifically dedicated to myeloid science. Furthermore, Compugen holds a licensing agreement with AstraZeneca for the development of bi-specific and multi-specific immuno-oncology antibody products.
CW9 Earnings Call
Q1 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call emphasized meaningful clinical and strategic progress: initiation and active enrollment of the MAIA-ovarian trial for COM701 with an interim PFS readout expected in Q1 2027, advancing partnered programs (AstraZeneca's rilvegostomig and Gilead's GS-0321) with substantial potential milestones, continued discovery momentum from the Unigen platform, and a solid cash position (~$134.9M) providing runway into 2029. Offsetting these positives were modest near-term financials (Q1 revenue down ~4.4% to $2.2M), higher R&D spending (+~19%) and a slightly larger net loss (+~6.9%), plus dependence on partner milestones and uncertainty around trial outcomes and enrollment details. On balance, the call portrays a company making strategic clinical and partnership advances while investing into development, with manageable but notable near-term financial and execution risks.View all DE:CW9 earnings summariesCW9 Stock 12 Month Forecast
