Bulls Say, Bears Say

Bulls Say
Secured Lender SupportMeaningful financings from Pender and a $19M BDC loan provide multi-year runway and reduce immediate covenant pressure. The BDC term loan (matures 2033, favorable spread) improves liquidity flexibility to fund capex and inventory rebuilds, supporting execution of the recovery plan.
Operational Recovery & Cost SavingsA clear operational roadmap to two-shift production increases capacity utilization and reduces per-unit fixed costs. Identified quick-payback capex (~$11M for >$4M EBITDA uplift) and conversion cost improvements create structural margin levers that can sustainably raise profitability if run rates and pricing normalize.
Favorable Timber Supply & Cost PositionOperating in a region with surplus sawlog availability supports competitively priced fiber and lower stumpage, a durable cost advantage. A richer B.C. lumber mix and regional pricing advantage versus eastern mills bolster long-term margin resilience versus peers when operations run at sustainable rates.
Bears Say
Elevated LeverageSharp increase in leverage meaningfully reduces financial flexibility in a cyclical industry. Higher debt amplifies refinancing and covenant risk, limits ability to absorb further cyclical downturns, and pressures capital allocation while returns on equity remain strongly negative and book value is eroding.
Negative Cash GenerationPersistent negative operating and free cash flow indicate the business is not self-funding and requires external financing to sustain operations and capex. Volatile cash conversion increases liquidity risk, forces recurring lender dependence, and constrains the firm's ability to invest organically or withstand prolonged weak pricing.
Tariff-driven Export Economics HitMaterial tariff and duty escalation has structurally worsened U.S. export economics, driving curtailments, large non-cash adjustments and a FY2025 net loss. Regulatory duty risk can persist or re-emerge, creating sustained margin pressure and undermining the firm's ability to realize benefits from operational improvements.
