Power Off

The retail giant has pulled iFIT NordicTrack Rowing Machines from sale because of the risk of fire. Its shares melted nearly 1%.

It has told fitness fans to immediately stop using and unplug the recalled rowing machines which cost $1,700. They have been told to contact the manufacturer iFIT to arrange for a free home repair by an authorized technician in the form of a replacement screen console.

There have been eight incidents including two reports of fire, six reports of smoking or melting, and at least $6,000 in property damage. However, no injuries have been reported.

The recall came only a day after hundreds of dressers sold at Walmart were recalled over a risk of serious injury or death, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Dressing Down

Hong Lu, doing business as AOWOS, issued a recall for a select number of its 12-drawer dressers on October 16 as they violated the mandatory standard required by the STURDY Act, a law designed to prevent tip-over accidents, the CPSC said.

The CPSC warned that the recalled dressers were unstable if not anchored to a wall, and could pose “tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in serious injuries or death to children.”

“Consumers should stop using the recalled dressers immediately if they are not anchored to the wall and place them in an area that children cannot access,” it said.

The dressers were sold online at Walmart.com from September 2023 through August 2025 for about $90.

Key Risks

These continuing recalls matter to Walmart because selling dangerous products can damage the company’s finances and reputation. It is why ability to sell is a key risk when investing in a retail stock.

Other Walmart product recalls this year include electric blankets which posed a fire hazard, faulty water bottles which caused two people to go blind, kids’ bikes which could lead to lead poisoning and radioactive shrimps.
