Sound Detection

Walmart said the Onn Indoor camera and the Onn Video Doorbell were both designed and built to work with Google Home and its new Gemini features.

The Onn Indoor Camera is now on sale for $22.96 and the Onn Video Doorbell for $49.86.

Both of these cameras work with the Google Home app for both setup and streaming live and recorded video.

According to Walmart, a customer will get 3 hours of snapshots, person and motion detection and sound detection. The latter includes dogs barking and people talking.

AI Capability

Google Home’s Anish Kattukaran told The Verge that the cameras will also work with the new Gemini for Home camera features. Through a subscription, users get access to features like AI-powered text descriptions and AI-powered camera search in the Google Home app.

Google announced last year that it would open its Google Home APIs and partner with manufacturers to bring its Gemini-powered features to more hardware.

“We don’t want to constrain Gemini to just one brand, one OEM, one form factor, one price point,” Kattukaran said. “So, we’re going to work with a bunch of different partners. Walmart’s our first. It was a very deep collaboration.”

The move helps Walmart’s development of own-brand technology, which also includes Smart televisions, and further diversification away from its core grocery ranges.

It also builds the retailer’s AI capabilities, which also includes chatbot assistants and its Trend-to-Product technology, which uses both AI and generative AI to scrub the internet for fashion trends and come up with new styles.
