Trump Says Russia and Ukraine Will ‘Immediately’ Begin Ceasefire Negotiations

President Trump has concluded his two-hour phone call with Russia President Putin. The main focus of the call was to put an end to the Russia-Ukraine war, which Putin said was “generally on the right track.” In a Truth Social post, Trump added that Russia and Ukraine would “immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the war.” He also said that The Vatican has expressed interest in hosting the negotiations.

Putin Rejects 30-Day Ceasefire Proposition

However, Putin rejected Trump’s proposal for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire, explaining that the “root causes” of the war had to be resolved first, according to Russian state media.

“We have agreed with the president of the United States that Russia will propose and is ready to work with the Ukrainian side on a memorandum on a possible future peace accord, defining a number of positions, such as, for example, the principles of settlement, the timing of a possible peace agreement,” said Putin following the call.
