United Airlines (UAL) CEO Scott Kirby assured customers in an email on Monday that Newark flights are safe despite recent technology and air-traffic control staffing issues, The Wall Street Journal’s Robert Barba and Alison Sider report. The FAA is working to address the issues, but Kirby said in the email there are procedures in place to make sure flying is safe in the meantime. “The truth is that all the flights in and out of EWR are absolutely safe,” Kirby said in the email. “When there are FAA issues, such as technology outages or staffing shortages, the FAA requires all airlines to fly fewer aircraft to maintain the highest levels of safety.”
