Ubisoft chief says streaming to transform video game industry, FT reports

Ubisoft (UBSFY) chief executive Yves Guillemot said streaming will transform the video game industry just like Netflix (NFLX) disrupted television and cinema, the Financial Times’ Adrienne Klasa reports, citing Guillemot. The remarks come after Ubisoft agreed to purchase streaming rights for Activision Blizzard’s (ATVI) portfolio of games amid Microsoft’s (MSFT) effort to win regulatory approval for its $75B takeover of the company. “When Netflix first said it was going to go into streaming, their shares fell a lot and they were widely criticised,” Guillemot said. “Today we see what they have become. It’s going to be the same with video games but it will take time. But when it takes off, it will happen very quickly.”
