Wedbush analyst Nick McKay said that the CMA provisionally ruling that the sale of Activision Blizzard’s (ATVI) cloud gaming rights to Ubisoft (UBSFY) addresses previous Microsoft (MSFT) deal concerns is a “win-win” solution, as Microsoft is now able to close the deal presumably by the end of next week. While the magnitude of Ubisoft’s gain is unclear, the “wholesale pricing mechanism” mandated by the CMA indicates that Ubisoft will be able to buy the rights for a lower price than it expects to sell them, the analyst tells investors in a research note. As a result, the firm believes that Microsoft has already communicated an offer to Ubisoft for a worldwide streaming rights license.
