Uber (UBER) has looked into a potential offer for Expedia (EXPE) as part of its push to grow into a “super app,” the Financial Times’ Stephen Morris, James Fontanella-Khan, and Oliver Barnes report. The ride-hailing giant approached advisers in recent months after the idea of such a deal was broached by a third party to examine whether the transaction would be possible and how it could be structured, the authors say, citing three people familiar with the process. A focus of the talks was the role of Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, who was Expedia’s CEO from 2005 to 2017 and continued to be a non-executive director on its board, the authors note.
