The U.S. is asking South Korea to adopt similar restrictions on semiconductor technology exports to China to those Washington has implemented, Mackenzie Hawkins and Sam Kim of Bloomberg report. According to people familiar with the matter, American officials want South Korea to restrict the flow of equipment and technologies for high-end logic and memory chips to China. South Korean officials are wary of any potential penalties that export controls may trigger due to major firms such as Samsung Electronics (SSNLF) and SK Hynix still operating in China. While its chip equipment suppliers are not as prominent as others, local gear makers including Hanmi Semiconductor Co. and Jusung Engineering make up an important part of the company’s ecosystem. Other publicly traded companies in the space include Applied Materials (AMAT) and ASML Holding (ASML).
