U.K. planning to delay new ICE vehicle ban to 2035, BBC reports

U.K. is mulling the plan to delay the ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars, extended the initial plan by five years, according to BBC. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is considering weaking some of the government’s key green commitments in a major policy shift, BBC’s Henry Zeffman and Chris Mason and Brian Wheeler write. It could include delaying a ban on the sales of new petrol and diesel cars and phasing out gas boilers, multiple sources have told the BBC. Responding to the reported plans, he said the government was committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050 but in a “more proportionate way.” The new ICE vehicle ban was set to come into force in 2030 but would be pushed to 2035, the publication adds. Publicly traded companies in the space include Ford (F), General Motors (GM), Honda (HMC), Mercedes-Benz Group (DDAIF), Nissan (NSANY), Stellantis (STLA), Tesla (TSLA), Toyota (TM) and Volkswagen (VWAGY).
