Spirit AeroSystems uses soap, keycard in manufacturing process, NY Times says

During the F.A.A.’s audit of Spirit Aerosystems (SPR) and Boeing (BA), it was found that Spirit said the company properly authorized the use of dish soap as well as a newly created tool that resembled a key card, Mark Walker of The New York Times reports. Spirit officials said the key card was used to check the gap between the seal and the door plug to ensure there was no obstruction, rolling, or pinching. Spirit’s CTO led the effort to get the new tool approved for use by Boeing and properly documents. However, the FAA noted the key card was being used, but was “not identified/documented/called-out in the production order,” the Times said, citing a document on the audit findings.
