Renting cars is now a part of the American ‘gig economy,’ WSJ reports

A new venue for “small-time entrepreneurs” to take on the entrenched car rental giants like Hertz (HTZ) and Avis Budget (CAR) in the car rental market, is emerging thanks to car-sharing services such as Turo and Getaround (GETR), wrote Ben Eisen for the Wall Street Journal. Turo and Getaround are platforms where car owners can profit “by renting out cars they aren’t using,” added the WSJ story. Renting cars is a new addition to the “gig work” that has become a vital part of the American economy, like renting out rooms on Airbnb (ABNB) or driving for Uber (UBER), noted the WSJ story.
