Alphabet’s Google is distancing itself from a drag performance that the company had initially planned as a final event for this year’s pride month after a group of staff circulated an internal petition opposing the performance, alleging religious discrimination, CNBC’s Jennifer Elias reports. The “Pride and Drag Show” event was scheduled for Tuesday at LGBTQ+ bar Beaux in San Francisco, the author says, citing a now-removed internal description of the event. A few hundred workers signed the petition opposing the performance, saying it sexualizes and disrespects Christian employees, the author notes. The company told CNBC it no longer categorized the show as a Google-recognized DEI event.
