The U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed a suit to block Microsoft’s (MSFT) proposed takeover of "Call of Duty" maker Activision Blizzard (ATVI) in December in part to get ahead of its European counterparts and convince them not to accept a settlement allowing the transaction to go through, Bloomberg’s Leah Nylen reports, citing people familiar with the investigations. The FTC filed a lawsuit challenging the deal on December 8 just hours after a call between U.S. and EU officials about their respective investigations, the author notes.
